We conducted a meta-analysis to summarize diagnostic properties of risk factors and clinical prediction rules for diagnosing infective endocarditis (IE) in Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia (SAB). ⋯ SAB patients with high-risk features (embolic events, pacemakers, prosthetic valves, previous IE, or intravenous drug use) should undergo a trans-esophageal echocardiography (TEE) for IE. Clinical prediction rules show promise in safely ruling out endocarditis, but require validation in future studies.

Detection of Zika virus RNA in semen of asymptomatic blood donors.
Zika virus (ZIKV) transmission through semen donation has never been reported but the risk is supported by the detection of ZIKV in semen and the demonstration of ZIKV sexual transmission. The potential impact of ZIKV on assisted reproductive procedures should be evaluated. ⋯ Our results that show a high percentage of detection of ZIKV RNA in the semen of asymptomatic men confirm that ZIKV is a new threat for reproductive medicine and should have important implications for assisted reproductive technology. We recommend that semen donations from men at risk for ZIKV infection should be tested for ZIKV RNA, regardless of symptoms of ZIKV infection.

Comparative StudySuperficial swab versus deep-tissue biopsy for the microbiological diagnosis of local infection in advanced-stage pressure ulcers of spinal-cord-injured patients: a prospective study.
To assess the predictive value of superficial ulcer swab culture to make a microbiological diagnosis of deep wound infections in spinal cord injury (SCI) patients with advanced-stage pressure ulcers. ⋯ Our results confirm that in patients with advanced-stage pressure ulcers, the cultures of a superficial ulcer swab are not useful in either the diagnosis of a superinfection or the prediction of the role of involved micro-organisms.
