The Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission (EC) is one of the most important instruments for public funding of research and technological development. Besides the scientific assessment of each proposal, the ethical issues raised in them are evaluated in accordance with the current European legislation and the ethical principles laid down in the international declarations supported by Member States. Such ethical review is organized by the "Governance and Ethics" Unit (Directorate-General for Research), although it is done by professionals from different sectors and backgrounds who register themselves voluntary in a database.

To carry out a transcultural adaptation and validation of the Picker Patient Experience Questionnaire-15 (PPE-15). To incorporate new dimensions such as informed consent and decision making, that are not addressed in the PPE-15 but are considered relevant for Spanish patients on information and decision making in hospital. ⋯ The PPE-15 adapted to Spanish as the PPE-33, is a reliable and valid instrument to measure the perception and satisfaction of patients that have been hospitalised, regarding information, treatment received and participation in decision making.

A nursing task is to look after the pain associated with surgical procedures in order to maintain patient wellbeing. The first objective of this study was to measure the level of the patient satisfaction with management of post-operative pain. Secondly, we wanted to identify the determining factors of an adequate postoperative analgesia and the predictive value of the visual analogical scale (VAS). ⋯ The management of post operative pain is satisfactory. The use of the VAS during the first two hours identifies an important percentage of patients who require more intensive analgesic treatment.

To analyse the opinions of physicians on the appropriateness of research into the relationships between doctors and pharmaceutical industry, and to evaluate the usefulness of email survey in this research. ⋯ The vast majority of doctors agree with the appropriateness of researching into the relationships between doctors and the pharmaceutical industry. Relationships between physicians and industry appear to be intensive, as seen in other studies. Response rate was low, but the simplicity and speed of the method are valuable advantages.
