To investigate the association of personal accomplishment (PA) with the other subscales, assess its association with well-being outcomes, and evaluate drivers of PA by resident level. ⋯ PA is a distinct metric of resident well-being, associated with job satisfaction and attrition. Drivers of PA differ by PGY level and may be targets for intervention to promote resident wellness and engagement.

To determine whether delayed or canceled elective procedures due to COVID-19 resulted in higher rates of ED utilization and/or increased mortality. ⋯ The pause in elective surgical cases was not associated with short-term adverse outcomes in VA hospitals, suggesting appropriate surgical case triage and management. Further study will be essential to determine if the delayed cases were associated with longer-term effects.

COVID-19 has strained hospital capacity, detracted from patient care, and reduced hospital income. This article lays out a tested strategy that surgical and hospital leaders can use to overcome clinical and financial strain, emphasizing the experience at 2 leading North American medical centers. By classifying the time and resource needs of surgical patients and smoothing the flow of surgical admissions over all days of the week, hospitals can dramatically improve hospital efficiency, the quality of care and timely access to care for emergent and urgent surgeries. Through and beyond the time of COVID, smoothing the flow of surgical patients is a key means to restore hospital vitality and improve the care of all patients.

The aim of this work is to formulate recommendations based on global expert consensus to guide the surgical community on the safe resumption of surgical and endoscopic activities. ⋯ The Delphi process resulted in 99 recommendations. These consensus statements provide expert guidance, based on scientific methodology, for the safe resumption of surgical activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
