To develop evidence-based recommendations for safe, effective, and appropriate treatment of secondary (SHPT) and tertiary (THPT) renal hyperparathyroidism. ⋯ Evidence-based guidelines were created to assist clinicians in the optimal management of secondary and tertiary renal hyperparathyroidism.

To compare new mental health diagnoses (NMHD) in children after a firearm injury versus following a motor vehicle collision (MVC). ⋯ Children were found to have 50% increased odds of having a NMHD in the year following a firearm injury as compared to MVC. Programmatic interventions are needed to address children's mental health following firearm injuries.

To evaluate if patient-derived organoids (PDOs) may predict response to neoadjuvant (NAT) chemotherapy in patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma. ⋯ Herein we report a large single-institution organoid biobank, including ethnic minority samples. The ability to establish PDOs from chemotherapy-naive and post-NAT tissue enables longitudinal PDO generation to assess dynamic chemotherapy sensitivity profiling. PDOs can be rapidly screened and further development of rapid screening may aid in the initial stratification of patients to the most active NAT regimen.

To determine if islet autotransplantation (IAT) independently improves the quality of life (QoL) in patients after total pancreatectomy and islet autotransplantation (TP-IAT). ⋯ QoL is significantly improved when insulin independence is present, and glycosylated hemoglobin is lower with a functioning islet graft. These data support offering IAT, rather than just performing total pancreatectomy and treating with exogenous insulin.

To determine the efficacy of an orally delivered phosphate-rich polymer, Pi-PEG, to prevent surgical site infection (SSI) in a mouse model of spontaneous wound infection involving gut-derived pathogens. ⋯ A nonantibiotic phosphate-rich polymer, Pi-PEG, added to the drinking water of mice prevents SSIs and may represent a more sustainable approach in lieu of the current trend of greater sterility and the use of more powerful and broader antibiotic coverage.
