To develop a COS, an agreed minimum set of outcomes to measure and report in all studies evaluating the introduction and evaluation of novel surgical techniques. ⋯ The COS is recommended for use in all studies before definitive randomized controlled trial evaluation to promote safe, transparent, and efficient surgical innovation.

The aim of this study was to estimate risks of myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, and cardiovascular-related and all-cause mortality after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) for obesity compared with nonop-erated obese patients and matched nonobese population controls. ⋯ RYGB for obesity might not decrease the risk of ischemic stroke, but seems to decrease the risk of myocardial infarction back to population levels.

The aim of this study was to identify potential biomarkers predictive of healing or failure to heal in a population with venous leg ulceration. ⋯ This study reports a metabolic signature predictive of healing in venous leg ulceration and presents potential translational applications for disease prognostication and development of targeted therapies.

The aim of this study was to assess rates of palliative care (PC) involvement in the care of patients with malignant gastrointestinal obstruction (GIO) and its influence on interdisciplinary team involvement. ⋯ PC consultation benefits patients with malignant GIO by facilitating comprehensive interdisciplinary care, ACP discussions, and transition to hospice care, where appropriate. Diagnosis of malignant GIO should be a trigger for PC consultation or, in facilities with limited PC resources, consideration of deliberately broad interdisciplinary consultation.

The aim of this study was to develop a predictive model for overall survival after esophagectomy using pre/postoperative clinical data and machine learning. ⋯ An RSF model for long-term survival after esophagectomy exhibited excellent discrimination and well-calibrated predictions. At a patient level, it provides more accuracy than TNM staging alone and could help in the delivery of tailored treatment and follow-up.
