To characterize the relationship between institutional robotic-assisted pulmonary lobectomy volume and hospitalization costs. ⋯ Increasing hospital RATS lobectomy volume was associated with reduced hospitalization costs. Our findings suggest the presence of streamlined care pathways at high-volume centers, which influence costs of care.

To evaluate existing federal survey data infrastructure pertaining to firearms and firearm-related violence. ⋯ Reliable national data are critical to understanding firearm-related violence as well as to developing, implementing, and evaluating public health measures to address it. Improving the consistency of questions pertaining to firearm access and experiences of violence in federal surveys offers an opportunity to improve national data infrastructure.

To understand the mediating effect of socioeconomic factors on the association between residential segregation and racial disparities in pancreatic cancer (PC). ⋯ These socioeconomic factors serve as intervention points for legislators to address the social determinants inherent to the structural racism that mediate poor outcomes for Black patients.

This study aimed to validate the prognostic significance of stratification using pathological stage and response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy with a nationwide database from an authorized institute by the Japan Esophageal Society. ⋯ The prognostic value of classification using pStage and the pathological response was successfully validated using real-world data in Japan. This result would guide appropriate treatment for patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by esophagectomy.

To develop a machine learning model that automatically quantifies the spread of blood in the surgical field using intraoperative videos of laparoscopic colorectal surgery and evaluate whether the index measured with the developed model can be used to assess tissue handling skill. ⋯ We developed a machine learning model to measure blood pixels in laparoscopic colorectal surgery images using RGB information. The blood pixel count per frame measured with this model significantly correlated with surgeons' tissue handling skills.
