To understand the mediating effect of socioeconomic factors on the association between residential segregation and racial disparities in pancreatic cancer (PC). ⋯ These socioeconomic factors serve as intervention points for legislators to address the social determinants inherent to the structural racism that mediate poor outcomes for Black patients.

This study assessed whether cholecystectomy is a risk factor for newly developed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the Korean population. ⋯ These results provide evidence that cholecystectomy is associated with an increased risk of newly developed T2DM in the Korean population. Further research is required to elucidate the mechanism of the association between cholecystectomy and incident diabetes.

The aim of this study was to explore the incidence, risk factors, clinical course and treatment of perforation and fistula of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract in a large unselected cohort of patients with necrotizing pancreatitis. ⋯ Perforation and fistula of the GI tract occurred in one out of six patients with necrotizing pancreatitis. Risk factors were high C-reactive protein within 48 hours and early organ failure. Prior intervention was identified as a risk factor for perforation or fistula of the lower GI tract. The clinical course was mostly affected by involvement of the lower GI tract.

To evaluate existing federal survey data infrastructure pertaining to firearms and firearm-related violence. ⋯ Reliable national data are critical to understanding firearm-related violence as well as to developing, implementing, and evaluating public health measures to address it. Improving the consistency of questions pertaining to firearm access and experiences of violence in federal surveys offers an opportunity to improve national data infrastructure.
