Perception of Treatment Success and Impact on Function with Antibiotics or Appendectomy for Appendicitis: A Randomized Clinical Trial with an Observational Cohort.
To compare secondary patient reported outcomes of perceptions of treatment success and function for patients treated for appendicitis with appendectomy vs. antibiotics at 30 days. ⋯ Overall, participants reported high satisfaction, low regret, and were frequently able to resume usual activities and return to work. When comparing treatments for appendicitis, no single measure defines success or failure for all people. The reported data may inform discussions regarding the most appropriate treatment for individuals.

To estimate the global and regional prevalence and cases of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) in 2019 and to evaluate major associated factors. ⋯ A substantial proportion of people are affected by AAA. There is a need to optimize epidemiological studies to promptly respond to at-risk and identified cases to improve outcomes.

The aim of study was to compare overall 5-year survival of esophageal cancer patients undergoing transthoracic esophagectomy with either neck or intrathoracic anastomosis, that is, McKeown and Ivor-Lewis esophagectomy. ⋯ This population-based nationwide study suggests that overall 5-year survival or 90-day survival with McKeown and Ivor-Lewis esopha-gectomy for esophageal cancer are comparable.

To investigate the effect of the timing of chemoprophylaxis on venous thromboembolisms (VTEs) and bleeding rates in patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. ⋯ Our findings advocate for initiating chemoprophylaxis postoperatively in elective abdominal surgery to minimize bleeding risk without compromising VTE protection.

Effect of Adjuvant Steroid Therapy in type 3 Biliary Atresia: A Single-Center, Open-Label, Randomized Controlled Trial.
To evaluate the efficacy and side effects of additional postoperative steroid therapy for type 3 BA versus the current routine care. ⋯ Postoperative adjuvant steroid intervention improved bile drainage and survival with native liver in type 3 BA patients, without increasing early-stage SAEs.
