Can sphygmomanometers designed for self-measurement of blood pressure in the home be used in office practice?
To examine the possibility of measuring automated office (AO) blood pressure (BP) using home BP recorders in place of the more expensive, fully automated devices designed specifically for professional use. ⋯ Home BP devices may be used to record AOBP in selected patients. However, a fully automated sphygmomanometer is still the device of choice for obtaining AOBP readings similar to the awake ambulatory BP in patients with suspected hypertension.

Validation of the Tiba Medical Ambulo 2400 ambulatory blood pressure monitor to the ISO Standard and BHS protocol.
We evaluated the Tiba Medical Ambulo 2400 ambulatory blood pressure monitor accuracy by both the International Standards Organization (ISO) Standard and the British Hypertension Society (BHS) protocol. ⋯ The Ambulo 2400 passed all phases of the ISO testing and achieved an A grade for both SBP and DBP per BHS analyses. There was no decrease in accuracy in either high or low BP ranges. The Ambulo 2400 integrates activity monitoring for assigning actual awake and asleep times. There are software features that are particularly beneficial to monitor children and adolescents.

Meta AnalysisAmlodipine and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor combination versus amlodipine monotherapy in hypertension: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
This study aimed to estimate the efficacy and tolerability of the combination of amlodipine and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors as compared with amlodipine monotherapy in the treatment of hypertension. ⋯ This meta-analysis suggests that the combination treatment provides superior BP control, fewer adverse events, and better tolerability in hypertensive patients than monotherapy. Further research should explore the mechanism of the combination therapy and whether it is associated with the reduction of cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality.

The Finometer can function as a standalone instrument in blood pressure variability studies and does not require support equipment to determine breathing frequency.
The Finometer records the beat-to-beat finger pulse contour and has been recommended for research studies assessing short-term changes of blood pressure and its variability. Variability measured in the frequency domain using spectral analysis requires the impact of breathing be restricted to high frequency spectra (>0.15 Hz) so that the data from participants need to be excluded when the breathing impact occurs in the low frequency spectra (0.04-0.15 Hz). This study tested whether breathing frequency can be estimated from standard Finometer recordings using either stroke volume oscillation frequency or spectral stroke volume variability maximum scores. ⋯ Breathing frequency can be accurately derived from standard Finometer recordings using stroke volume oscillations for healthy individuals in both supine and upright postures. The Finometer can function as a standalone instrument in blood pressure variability studies and does not require support equipment to determine the breathing frequency.

Discrepancy among three blood pressure readings within one measurement and relevant influencing factors.
To investigate the discrepancy in three blood pressure (BP) readings within one measurement and the relevant influencing factors. ⋯ The discrepancy in the three BP readings within one measurement is quite large. High basic BP, female sex, and aging are facilitating factors for large SBP discrepancy. Female sex and aging are independent factors for large discrepancy in three BP readings.
