Despite the wide application of open reduction and internal fixation with locking plates for the treatment of proximal humeral fractures, the surgical invasive approach remains controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the pros and cons of the minimally invasive lateral approach for the treatment of proximal humeral fracture (PHF) in comparison with the deltopectoral approach. ⋯ The minimally invasive lateral approach is the optimal alternative for the treatment of Neer's type 2 and 3 proximal humerus fractures.

Effectiveness and safety of tranexamic acid for total knee arthroplasty: a prospective randomized controlled trial.
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is associated with significant perioperative blood loss and need for transfusion. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of tranexamic acid (TXA) to reduce perioperative blood loss in patients receiving TKA. ⋯ Perioperative blood loss could be reduced after TKA by intravenously injecting 15 mg/kg TXA at 15 min before the tourniquet was loosened. The application of TXA is not associated with increased risk of DVT.

Cesarean section (CS) is one of the most common obstetric procedures worldwide and an increased rate of cesarean section has been observed in recent studies. Maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity associated with cesarean section is an important health problem worldwide. This requires the evaluation of the effect of repeated cesarean delivery on maternal morbidity. ⋯ An increasing number of CSs is accompanied by serious maternal complications. Four or more CSs are of especially critical importance. Decreasing the number of cesarean sections is required to decrease relevant complications. Vaginal birth after CS is an option that should be recommended to the patient.

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is associated with a poor prognosis. The purpose of this study was to assess the characteristics of ILD that are associated with RA. ⋯ RA-ILD was associated with age, age at RA onset, anti-CCP, and steroid use. Anti-CCP antibodies might be important biomarkers of RA-ILD.

The aim of this study was to explore the effects of different tidal volume (VT) ventilation on paraquat-induced acute lung injury or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ALI/ARDS) in piglets. ⋯ Small tidal volume ventilation combined with PEEP could alleviate the acute lung injury induced by paraquat and improve oxygenation.
