Preoperative cognitive intervention reduces cognitive dysfunction in elderly patients after gastrointestinal surgery: a randomized controlled trial.
Preoperative conditions may play a significant role in postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) development in elderly patients. We aimed to investigate whether preoperative cognitive training could lower the incidence of POCD one week after surgery. ⋯ Cognitive training with MoL can reduce the decline of early postoperative cognitive function in elderly patients undergoing major gastrointestinal surgery.

Comparison of Adrenal Suppression between Etomidate and Dexmedetomidine in Children with Congenital Heart Disease.
The aim of this study was to compare plasma cortisol concentration during anesthesia of children with congenital heart disease who received dexmedetomidine (DEX) with those who received etomidate (ETO). ⋯ The plasma concentrations of cortisol decreased in CHD children after the operation, but returned to baseline after 24 h of anesthesia induction. The adrenal cortex function inhibition induced by ETO in CHD children is longer and more serious than that induced by DEX (if any) during the preoperative period.

The aim of this study was to compare radial head prosthesis replacement with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) in the surgical treatment of Mason type III radial head fractures in 72 elderly patients. ⋯ The radial head prosthesis replacement method is a relatively better surgical approach than ORIF in the treatment of elderly patients with Mason type III radial head fractures.

Spinal anesthesia (SA) is usually associated with hypotension in pregnant women. We sought to assess the influence of various maternal positions on SA-induced hypotension ⋯ The maternal position during the induction of anesthesia played an important role in the development of hypotension during cesarean delivery.

Multi-level cervical degeneration of the spine is a common clinical pathology that is often repaired by anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). The aim of this study was to investigate the kinematics of the cervical spine after hybrid surgery compared with 2-level ACDF. ⋯ For 2-level reconstruction, hybrid surgery and ADR did not alter ROM and minimally changed ICR at the adjacent-level. The type of surgery had a significant impact on the ICR location. This suggests that hybrid surgery may be a viable option for 2-level cervical surgery.
