Telemedicine applications, such as a mobile radiography service, provide a new way of organizing healthcare services. In order to provide safe and personalised care for nursing home residents during X-ray examinations, mobile radiography services have been implemented. The objective of this study was to analyse the costs of X-ray examinations and treatments for nursing home residents when comparing hospital-based imaging with a combination of hospital-based imaging and a mobile radiography service in Southeast Norway. ⋯ A mobile radiography service in nursing homes provides a safe, high quality health care service. The result of this study showed there was a 30% cost-reduction by implementing the mobile radiography service.

Patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) are frequently admitted to an intensive care unit. Physiotherapy may be provided to optimize respiratory function; however, there is significant variability in clinical practice and limited research directing best practice for this cohort. This study aimed to determine expert consensus for best physiotherapy practice for invasively ventilated adults with CAP. ⋯ Expert consensus regarding physiotherapy for intubated adults with CAP patients provides an evidence-based approach to guide clinical practice. The consensus statements can also be used to guide research evaluating physiotherapy interventions for patients with CAP.

With limited government-sponsored breast screening programmes in developing countries, breast awareness remains the only realistic survival hope for millions. Poor levels of knowledge and preventive practices remain in these countries, and early enlightenment to empower teenage high school girls has been advocated for, recently. This study evaluates ways to ensure sustainability for such an approach. ⋯ Face-to-face and handout were both effective and of similar impact. However, sustained impact on monthly BSE is doubtful. To surmount this, strategies to ensure ongoing engagements are vital. Perhaps adjusting existing high school curricula to allow repeated yearly teachings on breast cancer and BSE, along with in-built-in evaluation systems like examinations and quizzes, are ways of ensuring engagement.

The concept of evidence-based health care has gained increasing currency over the past decades; however, questions persist regarding how to overcome the gap between research and health care practice. The question arises whether this gap derives from a true knowledge deficit or from physiotherapists' perception of working with evidence. The aim of the current study was to illuminate changes to the meaning of working with evidence experienced by a cohort of physiotherapists following an education program. ⋯ The physiotherapists' lived experiences demonstrated that the participants' perception of the concept of evidence mainly concerned a broadening of the definition of evidence, and this altered perception of evidence could interpreted as the physiotherapists viewing EBP as a more integrated and patient-oriented activity than before.
