Comparative Study
Treatment of diabetic foot infection with hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
This study was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) in the treatment of the infected diabetic foot. ⋯ Adjunctive HBOT has a positive effect on wound healing in diabetic foot with infection. The effect of HBOT seems dose dependent because the amputation rate is decreased in patients who receive adequate HBOT.

Atraumatic rupture of the tibialis anterior tendon is rare, and due to the mild nature of pain symptoms, affected patients often present weeks or months after rupture. Surgical management is advocated to restore function in active patients, and historically suture anchors have been the preferred method for repairing the ruptured tendon directly to bone. We present a case of acute, atraumatic tibialis anterior tendon rupture that was anatomically repaired using a novel application of a bone tunnel fixation technique. We describe the surgical procedure and the outcome measures used to evaluate post-operative results in this case.

Case Reports
Pitfalls in diagnosis and problems in extraction of retained wooden foreign bodies in the foot.
The detection and removal of a radiolucent foreign body in soft tissues is a problem. It is further complicated when it is not radio-opaque and embedded in the deep layers of the foot. Despite advances in imaging techniques, the detection of retained wooden foreign bodies remains a difficult and challenging task. ⋯ Therefore, a post-procedure imaging to ensure the adequacy of extraction becomes crucial. The choice of imaging in such circumstances is a moot point to consider. This case report highlights the common pitfalls associated with retained wooden foreign bodies and demonstrates how ultrasonography could be used as a simple and effective tool in this regard.

Pure tibiotalar dislocations without associated fracture are rare. The authors report a case of an unusual closed tibiotalar dislocation without fracture, involving proximal ascension of the talus. Despite immediate closed reduction, a tibiofibular diastasis remained, therefore two syndesmosis screws were inserted, followed by six weeks of plaster casting. After 5 years of follow-up, functional results were excellent, MRI showed slight arthritic degenerative changes.
