Meta AnalysisA Meta-Analysis of Palonosetron for the Prevention of Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting in Adults.
The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effectiveness and adverse effects of palonosetron in the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). ⋯ The results of this meta-analysis suggest that intravenous palonosetron could become a prophylactic antiemetic 5-HT3RA in the prevention of PONV compared with first-generation 5-HT3RAs or placebo. No increased risk of side effects with palonosetron were found.

ReviewAprepitant: A New Modality for the Prevention of Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting: An Evidence-Based Review.
Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) affects as many as 30% of surgical patients. Aprepitant, an antagonist of the neurokinin-1 receptor with a 40% half-life, may be effective for prophylaxis for PONV. This review describes the evidence of adding aprepitant to antiemetic therapy for PONV prophylaxis. ⋯ Aprepitant appears to be more effective in decreasing the incidence of PONV postoperatively as compared with ondansetron. It is recommended that aprepitant is used to treat patients at risk for PONV and for whom PONV could lead to catastrophic adverse outcomes.

Comparative StudyA Comparison Between Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting in General Anesthesia With Isoflurane-Remifentanil or Isoflurane in Cholecystectomy Laparoscopic Patients.
The purpose of the study was to compare postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) between laparoscopic cholecystectomy patients under general anesthesia with isoflurane and remifentanil-isoflurane. ⋯ The incidence of PONV in cholecystectomy laparoscopic patients under combined remifentanil with isoflurane anesthesia was relatively low, and it was a bit less in patients under isoflurane anesthesia alone.

The Efficacy of Aromatherapy in the Treatment of Postdischarge Nausea in Patients Undergoing Outpatient Abdominal Surgery.
The purpose of this study was to explore the effectiveness of the aromatherapy product QueaseEASE (QE) for decreasing postdischarge nausea (PDN) in patients undergoing outpatient abdominal surgery. ⋯ This study found that the aromatherapy QE was an effective treatment of PDN in select same-day abdominal surgery patients.
