Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation Integrated into Pants for the Relief of Postoperative Pain in Hip Surgery Patients: A Randomized Trial.
The effect of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) on pain and impression of change was assessed during a 2.5-hour intervention on the first postoperative days following hip surgery in a randomized, single-blinded, placebo-controlled trial involving 30 patients. ⋯ Mixed-frequency TENS integrated in pants could potentially be an interesting addition to the arsenal of treatments for multimodal analgesia following hip surgery. Assessment of Clinical Analgesic Levels and Serum Biomarkers in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing the Efficacy of Diclofenac and Methotrexate Combined Therapy with Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is one of the most common forms of arthritis. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) has been identified as a viable alternative therapeutic approach in light of the present protracted clinical course of pharmacological treatment, and changes in levels of marker proteins in the blood samples of RA patients can be utilized to assess treatment outcomes. ⋯ Both treatments significantly improved joint function, relieved pain, and reduced inflammation in patients. However, ESWT demonstrated a more prominent clinical analgesic effect compared to the combination treatment of diclofenac and MTX. Furthermore, ESWT produced a more immediate and noteworthy anti-inflammatory impact by regulating NRP-1 expression, a trophic factor receptor that facilitates vascular endothelial cell migration and tissue repair through angiogenesis, and regulating RGS-1 to limit inflammatory signal transmission and immune cell activation.

Tooth Sensitivity Following Hydrogen Peroxide Bleaching With and Without Ozone: A Randomized Controlled Trial: Tooth Sensitivity Following H2O2 Versus H2O2/Ozone Bleaching.
Aims: The aim of this investigation was to assess bleaching sensitivity following bleaching using either 38% H2O2 only or 38% H2O2 followed by ozone application. Methods: In this randomized controlled clinical investigation, 80 participants (40 females and 40 males) were randomly assigned to two groups (n = 40 each; 20 females and 20 males). The upper anterior teeth were bleached by 38% H2O2 for 20 min followed by ozone application for 60 s (healOzone X4, KaVo Dental, Biberach, Germany) in Group 1 (test group). ⋯ However, less bleaching sensitivity was reported when ozone was applied for 60 s after bleaching with 38% H2O2 (p < 0.001). Female participants reported more bleaching sensitivity regardless the applied bleaching protocol (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Bleaching protocols with 38% hydrogen peroxide were associated with less bleaching sensitivity when followed by ozone application on the teeth.

Continuous Intra-Incisional Bupivacaine for Postoperative Analgesia after Hip Nailing Surgery: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
The effectiveness of continuous wound infiltration (CWI) as a postoperative pain-control technique has been shown in many surgical procedures. This study investigates the effect of CWI of local anesthetic on postoperative pain control in intertrochanteric fracture patients undergoing hip nailing surgery. ⋯ CWI of bupivacaine helps better pain reduction during the early postoperative hours while it reduces opioid consumption, minimizes nausea and vomiting, and improves patient satisfaction.

Efficacy and Safety of Computed Tomography-Guided Percutaneous Balloon Compression under Local Anesthesia for Recurrent Trigeminal Neuralgia: A Prospective Study.
There are several ways to treat trigeminal neuralgia (TN); however, TN may recur after treatment. This study investigated the efficacy and safety of computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous balloon compression (PBC) under local anesthesia for treatment of recurrent trigeminal neuralgia. Patients and Methods. This is a prospective and nonrandomized controlled clinical study. Forty-eight patients with classical TN were scheduled to undergo PBC surgery at the pain department of our institution between January 2021 and June 2021. The patients were prospectively divided into an initial onset group, A (21 cases), and a recurrence group, B (27 cases). All surgeries were performed with CT guidance and under local anesthesia. Postoperative complications were also observed. Pain was assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS) and Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) scale. Efficacy indices were evaluated at 3, 6, 12, and 18 months after surgery. ⋯ CT-guided PBC under local anesthesia is safe and effective for the treatment of recurrent TN and thus acts as an effective alternative for geriatric patients and those with high-risk factors.
