Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyImmunogenicity and safety of human papillomavirus-16/18 AS04-adjuvanted cervical cancer vaccine in healthy Indian women.
India has the highest number of annual incident cases and mortality rates for cervical cancer worldwide. This study was conducted to assess the immunogenicity and safety of human papillomavirus (HPV)-16/18 AS04-adjuvanted cervical cancer vaccine in healthy Indian women aged 18-35 years old. ⋯ The AS04-adjuvanted HPV-16/18 cervical cancer vaccine was highly immunogenic and generally well-tolerated making it a potential tool for prevention and control of cervical cancer in India.

Prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time in thromboprophylaxis with unfractionated heparin in patients undergoing cesarean section.
Hemorrhage is an important complication of heparin-thromboprophylaxis after surgery. We attempted to clarify the incidence rate of prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), representative of hemorrhagic tendency, in Japanese women who received thromboprophylaxis with unfractionated subcutaneous heparin administration after cesarean section (CS). We also determined factors which affected postoperative APTT. ⋯ Although 7.1% of women under heparin-thromboprophylaxis showed a prolonged APTT that was 150% of the preoperative APTT, serious side effects were not observed. Subcutaneous administration of unfractionated heparin, if checking APTT prolongation 1 day after surgery, may be safe method of thromboprophylaxis after CS.

Case ReportsMoyamoya-disease-related ischemic stroke in the postpartum period.
Stroke during pregnancy or the puerperium is an extremely rare yet serious cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality. Moyamoya disease, a cerebrovascular occlusive pathology with a female predominance, may become symptomatic for the first time in association with pregnancy. A 36-year-old woman with postpartum pre-eclampsia suddenly developed hemiparesis in the left arm with dysarthria after the initiation of antihypertensive measures. ⋯ With anti-platelet medication, the patient recovered gradually and was diagnosed as having Moyamoya disease using conventional angiography 3 months postpartum. In this case, the fluctuations in blood pressure in association with pre-eclampsia appear to have exacerbated the clinical symptoms of Moyamoya disease. As such, Moyamoya disease should be considered as an underlying disease of ischemic stroke associated with pregnancy.

The dynamics of obstetricians and gynecologists in Japan: a retrospective cohort model using the nationwide survey of physicians data.
A shortage of obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/GYNs) in Japan has been highlighted. We conducted a descriptive and retrospective cohort study using data from the Survey of Physicians in Japan, and analyzed the dynamics of OB/GYNs. ⋯ The gravest problem in the OB/GYNs workforce is the continued decline in newly graduated OB/GYNs. Improvements in working conditions and job satisfaction are considered vital.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffect of education and pill count on hemoglobin status during prenatal care in Nepalese women: a randomized controlled trial.
To determine the effect of an education program and/or pill count on the change in hemoglobin levels and the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women. ⋯ An education program along with routine iron supplementation can improve hemoglobin levels and reduce anemia prevalence in pregnant women. Pill count as a measure of compliance has no additional effect on improving hemoglobin status.
