Initiation time of renal replacement therapy on patients with acute kidney injury: A systematic review and meta-analysis of 8179 participants.
The early initiation of renal replacement therapy has been recommended for patients with acute renal failure by some studies, but its effects on mortality and renal recovery are unknown. We conducted an updated meta-analysis to provide quantitative evaluations of the association between the early initiation of renal replacement therapy and mortality for patients with acute kidney injury. After applying inclusion/exclusion criteria, 51 studies, including 10 randomized controlled trials, with a total of 8179 patients were analyzed. ⋯ The early initiation of renal replacement therapy was associated with a decreased risk of all-cause mortality compared with the late initiation of RRT in patients with acute kidney injury. These findings should be interpreted with caution given the heterogeneity between studies. Further studies are needed to identify the causes of mortality and to assess whether mortality differs by dialysis dose.

Improved long-term survival and renal recovery after acute kidney injury in hospitalized patients: A 20 year experience.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication of medical and surgical interventions in hospitalized patients and associates with high mortality. Our aim was to examine renal recovery and long-term survival and time trends in AKI survival. ⋯ Acute kidney injury is an independent predictor of long-term mortality in hospitalized patients but there has been a marked improvement in survival and renal recovery over the past two decades.

Incidence and risk factors of acute kidney injury following transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
This study aimed to determine the incidence and risk factors of acute kidney injury (AKI) following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). ⋯ In a cohort of patients undergoing TAVR for aortic stenosis, AKI commonly occurred and was significantly associated with increased mortality. Baseline renal function, procedure approach and the need for circulatory support were important predictive factors for post-procedural AKI occurrence.

Evidence has validated that the nutritional status of hospitalized patients on haemodialysis could be compromised because of admission-related and hospital-associated morbidities on the background of their kidney disease. However, nutritional status is not assessed and monitored routinely during the hospitalization period. The aim of the present study was to assess the nutritional status of hospitalized patients requiring haemodialysis with the subjective global assessment (SGA) tool during the hospitalization period. ⋯ More than half of the hospitalized patients requiring haemodialysis were malnourished. It is important to incorporate SGA in the care of hospitalized haemodialysis patients for early detection of malnutrition and for medical nutrition therapy to optimise patients' nutritional status for better outcomes.
