Health-related quality of life and treatment outcomes for men with prostate cancer treated by combined external-beam radiotherapy and hormone therapy.
Health-related quality of life (HR-QOL) is important when considering the treatment options for prostate cancer. ⋯ The combination of radiotherapy and hormone therapy has a good outcome and patients do not experience poor HR-QOL, except for sexual problems. Moreover, the disease-specific QOL is good, especially for urinary bother.

Clinical TrialPhase I trial of combined chemotherapy with docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil for patients with locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.
This phase I study was designed to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) and toxicities of combination chemotherapy with docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in patients with locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN). ⋯ The MTD of this regimen was docetaxel 70 mg/m(2) on day 1, cisplatin 70 mg/m(2) on day 4, and 5-FU 750 mg/m(2) per day for 5 days. The regimen was safe and generally well-tolerated and demonstrated good efficacy in patients with locally advanced SCCHN. This phase I study was designed to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) and toxicities of combination chemotherapy with docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in patients with locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN).

Local hyperthermia combined with external irradiation for regional recurrent breast carcinoma.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic effects of hyperthermia in combination with radiotherapy for locoregional recurrence of breast cancer, and to assess the factors related to subsequent local tumor control. ⋯ The present findings suggested a significant benefit of local hyperthermia combined with radiotherapy in the treatment of locally recurrent breast cancer, especially for previously irradiated recurrence, by reducing the total irradiation dose. Diffuse/multiple small nodular tumors respond earlier than bulky/large nodular tumors; however, they tend to recur within the treatment field. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic effects of hyperthermia in combination with radiotherapy for locoregional recurrence of breast cancer, and to assess the factors related to subsequent local tumor control.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialPhase I/II trial of weekly docetaxel and concomitant radiotherapy for squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.
A phase I/II trial of concurrent docetaxel and radiation for head and neck cancer was conducted to estimate the recommended dose schedule of docetaxel, and then to evaluate the therapeutic benefit. ⋯ Even low-dose docetaxel shows a strong effect in combination with radiation, with a high survival rate in CR patients. We investigated the efficacy and safety of adjuvant immunochemotherapy and adjuvant chemotherapy for colorectal cancer, using different combinations of the intracutaneous streptococcal preparation OK-432 and the oral pyrimidines 1-hexylcarbamoyl-5-fluorouracil (carmofur, HCFU) and uracil/tegafur (UFT). ⋯ The results of an RCT demonstrated that the combination of MMC + 5-FU + HCFU + OK-432 for colon cancer and that of MMC + 5-FU + UFT + OK-432 for rectal cancer could not prolong the survival of patients with surgically resected colorectal cancer, but that both combinations were well tolerated as adjuvant therapy.
