Combined detection of Twist1, Snail1 and squamous cell carcinoma antigen for the prognostic evaluation of invasion and metastasis in cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
Cervical cancer is one of the most common malignant tumours of the female reproductive system, ranking second only to breast cancer in morbidity worldwide. Essential features of the progression of cervical cancer are invasion and metastasis, which are closely related to disease prognosis and mortality rate. At the present time there is no effective method to evaluate cancer invasion and metastasis before surgery. Here we report our study on molecular changes in biopsy tissue for the prognostic evaluation of cancer invasion and metastasis. ⋯ Combined detection of Twist1 and Snail1 in SCCA-positive biopsy specimens may be a potential method for evaluating the invasion and metastasis of CSCC prior to surgery.

Randomized Controlled TrialCombined application of diclofenac and celecoxib with an opioid yields superior efficacy in metastatic bone cancer pain: a randomized controlled trial.
Metastatic bone cancer pain is one of the most common clinical cancer pains and is caused by many factors. This study was conducted to explore the clinical efficacy of using two non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) along with an opioid in treating metastatic bone cancer pain. ⋯ Although limited by the relatively small samples, these results indicate that using two NSAIDs along with an opioid in treating metastatic bone cancer pain was more effective and acceptable, which is worthy of further clinical application.

Do all patients in the phase I oncology trials need to be hospitalized? Domestic but outstanding issues for globalization of drug development in Japan.
Most trials investigating new drugs around the world, including phase I trials, are conducted in outpatient clinics. However, in Japan, regulatory authority requirements and traditional domestic guidelines often require hospitalization of phase I study participants. ⋯ The frequency of severe toxicity that needs to be hospitalized was unexpectedly low. The data did not demonstrate the need for hospitalization in the phase I trials, suggesting that phase I trials in Japan could be conducted in outpatient settings.

Overall survival and prognostic factors in patients with spinal metastases from lung cancer treated with and without epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
Evaluation of the prognosis in patients with spinal metastases is important in decision making regarding surgical treatment. The purpose of this study was to investigate overall survival in patients with spinal metastases from lung cancer by histological subtype, and to investigate prognostic factors in patients treated with and without epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). ⋯ Median overall survival was longer in patients with spinal metastases from lung cancer treated with EGFR-TKIs compared with those treated without EGFR-TKIs. Poor performance status or other prognostic factors were not associated with poor overall survival in the group treated with EGFR-TKIs.
