Changes in the depth of chest compressions during cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a pediatric simulator.
High-quality chest compressions (CCs) are the main component of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Objectives. T o assess the depth of CCs during CPR using a pediatric patient manikin. A secondary objective was to explore the association between CC depth and sex, level of training, body mass index, and periodic physical training. ⋯ Depth rate reduced after 2 minutes. No association was observed with the body mass index or regular physical activity of resuscitators but with their sex and level of training.

Enoxaparin is a low molecular weight heparin used in the neonatal period. It requires less monitoring than standard or unfractionated heparin, although current knowledge about its dose and therapeutic levels in neonates is scarce. In addition, there is very limited information about the management of overdose in this age group. We present the first case published in Spanish of a neonate who accidentally received a dose of enoxaparin ten times higher than the therapeutic one and an isolated dose of protamine to reverse its effect.

Sjogren-Larsson syndrome is characterized by congenital ichthyosis, mental retardation and spastic diplegia or quadriplegia. The primary defect in this syndrome is mutation of ALDH3A2 gen that codes for the fatty aldehyde dehydrogenase. Deficiency of this enzyme causes an accumulation of fatty alcohols and fatty aldehydes, leading to altered cell-membrane integrity. ⋯ The diagnosis is carried out through the cuantification of the enzyme activity. This case report describes the diagnosis of a clinical syndrome with symptoms of Sjogren-Larsson syndrome by the quantification of the enzymatic activity in a culture of fibroblasts. Also, taking into account the genealogy of the patient, the study was conducted in the parents and a brother with signs suggestive of Sjogren-Larsson syndrome.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyPost-extubation non-invasive ventilation in the pediatric intensive care unit: a multicenter study.
Extubation failure is a complication that increases morbidity and mortality. Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) has demonstrated to be effective as ventilatory support therapy. ⋯ The use of post-extubation NIV may be a useful tool to prevent reintubation with invasive mechanical ventilation. Immunocompromised patients and those with neurological history had a higher rate of failure. Patients with failure tolerated less hours of NIV and had a longer length of stay in the pediatric intensive care unit.

Case ReportsScurvy due to restrictive diet in a child with autism spectrum disorder: case report.
Scurvy is a very uncommon entity in pediatric population. Some case reports have been published in infants fed with boiled milk, in patients with iron overload secondary to hematological diseases and in children with food restrictions secondary to neurodevelopmental disorders. We report a case of a 4-year-old male patient with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, which developed scurvy secondary to a long-term selective eating habit without fruit or vegetable intake. The objective of this case report is to announce the pediatrician and other professionals dedicated to primary health care about scurvy as a potential consequence of restrictive diets in children with autism spectrum disorders as well as the importance of dietary history in sick patients to prevent associated micronutrient deficiencies.
