Multicenter Study Comparative StudyComparison of Short-Term Functional, Oncological, and Perioperative Outcomes Between Laparoscopic and Robotic Partial Nephrectomy Beyond the Learning Curve.
To compare the short-term outcomes of robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RPN) and laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN) when performed by highly experienced surgeons. ⋯ In this series, perioperative and short-term oncological and functional outcomes appeared broadly comparable between RPN and LPN when performed by highly experienced surgeons.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe Effect of Different Intraabdominal Pressures on Thiol/Disulfide Homeostasis in Children Who Underwent Ambulatory Laparoscopic Surgery: A Prospective Randomized Study.
Thiol/disulfide homeostasis is a significant parameter in determining the oxidative stress response after ischemia and reperfusion. We aimed to investigate the effects of applying different intraabdominal pressure (IAP) on thiol/disulfide homeostasis, ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) levels, and hemodynamics in pediatric laparoscopic surgery. ⋯ Neither of 8 nor 12 mm Hg IAPs in pediatric laparoscopic surgery caused any changes in novel indicators of thiol/disulfide homeostasis parameters; however, 12 mm Hg IAP increased the levels of IMA.

Cryoanalgesia in Patients Undergoing Nuss Repair of Pectus Excavatum: Technique Modification and Early Results.
The Nuss procedure for surgical correction of pectus excavatum often causes severe postoperative pain. Cryoanalgesia of intercostal nerves is an alternative modality for pain control. We describe our modification of the cryoICE™ probe that allows for nerve ablation through the ipsilateral chest along with early results utilizing this technique. ⋯ Our technique modification simplifies previously described approaches to intercostal nerve cryoablation. Patients undergoing this adjunct benefit with less PNR and a faster discharge time.

The vertical sleeve gastrectomy is a bariatric procedure that was originally described as the initial step in the biliopancreatic diversion. It demonstrated effectiveness in weight loss as a single procedure, and the laparoscopic vertical sleeve gastrectomy, as a stand-alone procedure, is now the most commonly performed bariatric surgery worldwide. ⋯ While there are variations in the technical aspects of performing a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, key steps must be undertaken to produce safe and effective outcomes. This article reviews the indications for bariatric surgery, patient selection, surgical technique and tips, perioperative care and complications after sleeve gastrectomy.
