Effect of resident postgraduate year on outcomes after laparoscopic appendectomy for appendicitis in children.
The purpose of this study was to determine if the postgraduate level of resident in the operating room correlates with outcomes for pediatric patients undergoing laparoscopic appendectomy. ⋯ Involvement of junior residents in pediatric laparoscopic appendectomy is associated with increased operative time but no higher rate of complications.

Randomized Controlled TrialTreatment for postoperative wound pain in gynecologic laparoscopic surgery: topical lidocaine patches.
This article reports our early experience with the use of lidocaine patches for pain control in the immediate postoperative period after laparoscopic gynecologic surgery. ⋯ Topical lidocaine patches at the laparoscopic port sites reduced postoperative pain, particularly postoperative wound pain after gynecological laparoscopic procedures.

Is there an increased risk of complications with laparoscopy looking for a contralateral patent processus vaginalis?
In young children with a unilateral congenital inguinal hernia, the relatively high incidence of an occult contralateral patent processus vaginalis (CPPV) has led to the practice of laparoscopic contralateral exploration. The effect on postoperative complications such as surgical site infection from performing the laparoscopy has not been previously reported. ⋯ There is minimal risk of infection or recurrence following unilateral inguinal hernia repair, and this risk is not increased with the use of contralateral exploration using laparoscopy.

Exploring the role of laparoscopic surgery in two-stage hepatectomy for bilobar colorectal liver metastases.
The role of laparoscopy in two-stage hepatectomy for bilobar colorectal liver metastases (CRLMs) has not yet been extensively investigated. ⋯ The well-recognized advantages of laparoscopy may play a favorable role in the management of patients with bilobar CRLMs candidate for a two-stage resection. The first-stage laparoscopic clearance of the left lobe could progressively become the "gold standard." Laparoscopic second-stage hepatectomy should be limited to selected cases.

Feasibility of single-incision pediatric endosurgery for treatment of appendicitis in 415 children.
Single-incision pediatric endosurgery (SIPES) has gained popularity for ablative procedures such as appendectomy in many pediatric surgical centers. This study evaluates the outcome of SIPES for treatment of appendicitis in our institution. ⋯ Appendectomy can be accomplished successfully and safely using single-incision endosurgery in children with acceptable operative times without leaving any appreciable scar. Additional trocars are infrequently necessary. So far, the intraoperative and postoperative complication rates are comparable to those of triangulated laparoscopic appendectomy.
