To investigate if there was an agreement between the students and supervisors on the quality of clinical teaching in Restorative Dentistry in the Dublin Dental School and Hospital and to identify differences on how effective clinical teaching is perceived between three academic years. In addition it aimed to identify the existence of any similarities between students' and supervisors' perceptions of specific teaching behaviours that are most and least helpful in learning. ⋯ There is a limited agreement between students and staff on the effectiveness of clinical teaching and the way effectiveness is perceived between students and clinical supervisors as well as between senior and more junior students. Overall though students and supervisors rated the clinical teaching favourably but indicated several areas of concern.

Comparative Study
Comparison of dental education and professional development between mainland China and North America.
Different educational and professional developments within the dental field create different sets of missions, norms, and practices regarding dental diseases and their appropriate treatment. This review has addressed differences in dental education and professional development between mainland China and North America. Many factors influence the choice of model and it is very difficult to predict which model will become predominant. ⋯ Mandatory continuing dental professional education requirements do not guarantee the competence of members of the profession. Today, the Chinese government and society place increasing emphasis upon the accountability of self-regulating professions. Rather than attempting to summarise the current scope of dental education and professional development between mainland China and North America, this paper hopes to enhance mutual understanding, and promote greater academic exchanges in dental education.

Honesty and integrity are key characteristics expected of a doctor, although academic misconduct amongst medical students is not new. Academic integrity provides the foundation upon, which a flourishing academic life rests. The aim of this study was to investigate the attitude of undergraduate dental students about the seriousness of cheating behaviours and to determine the rate of malpractice amongst these students. ⋯ Almost 70% of the students agreed that they have involved in malpractice in examinations at least once. The majority also felt that cheating in examinations will not have any significant effect on their future. This study has revealed that cheating is an important issue, which needs to be addressed for the benefit of the society at large.

This study documented: (i) the curriculum in special care dentistry in the Italian dental schools, as perceived by Deans and by students, (ii) the rate of satisfaction of dental students with their curricular education in special care dentistry, (iii) the attitude of the dental students towards special care dentistry and towards the 'Special Smiles' programme. ⋯ Although the paucity of didactic and clinical training in dental care for ID patients, this survey demonstrated a high level of student's interest in learning more about treating these subjects. The current results could suggest to revise the curricular standards of dental schools, by promoting ID-oriented education programmes.
