The relationship between microscopic hematuria and hydronephrosis in urolithiasis.
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the degree of hydronephrosis and the presence of microscopic haematuria in patients who presented to the emergency department (ED) with ureteral stones. ⋯ We consider that imaging studies may be necessary for the diagnosis, and treatment of emergency cases in which microscopic haematuria is not detected in urinalysis since their stone size may be larger and degree of hydronephrosis may be more severe.

Impact of Nutritional Assessment on Long-Term Outcomes in Patients with Carotid Artery Stenting.
Malnutrition is associated with poor clinical outcomes in many diseases. The Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) is an objective index used for evaluating nutritional status of hospitalised patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between malnutrition assessed by CONUT score and the prognosis in patients undergoing carotid artery stenting (CAS). ⋯ Higher CONUT scores were associated with adverse outcomes in patients with CAS. Malnutrition assessed by the CONUT score is preferable with regards to the detection of MACE in patients with CAS. Larger studies are warranted to investigate if our preliminary findings translate into clinical outcomes in patients with CAS.

Sphenoid Sinus Mucosal Thickening in Patients with Non-functioning Pituitary Adenoma.
The aim of this study was to evaluate magnetic resonance imaging findings of sphenoid sinus (SS), pituitary gland and related structures in patients with non-functioning pituitary adenoma (NFPA) and compare to a control group. ⋯ The present study showed an association between NFPA and both SS mucosal thickening and increased distance between optic nerves. Also, our study demonstrated that there was a strong positive correlation between adenoma volume and distance between the two optic nerves.

In vitro scolicidal effects of Sideritis perfoliata extract against Echinococcus granulosus.
Cystic echinococcosis, caused by helminths within the genus Echinococcus, is mainly localised in the liver and lungs of affected hosts. Surgery has been the best choice for the treatment of hydatidosis and using effective scolicidal agents during hydatid surgery is required to prevent secondary infection. Several plant extracts have been shown to exert scolicidal efficacy. This study was designed to investigate the in vitro scolicidal activity of methanol extract of Sideritis perfoliata against the protoscolices of hydatid cysts. ⋯ This study has demonstrated that the methanol extract of S perfoliata has high scolicidal activity in vitro. However, research on the in vivo efficacy of S perfoliata extract and its potential side effects is required.

Spirometry reference equations for children from a Middle Eastern population.
Spirometry is a clinically useful test that can be used to assess lung function among children. Different equations had been formulated to determine the spirometric reference values depending on several individual characteristics. However, the widely used equations do not produce perfect suitability for Middle Eastern children. ⋯ This study formulated new spirometric reference equations for Middle Eastern children that can improve the diagnosis and management of different respiratory conditions.
