Is endogenous carboxyhemoglobin level a useful biomarker of clinical course and prognosis in COVID-19 patients?
SARS-CoV-2 has caused nearly 4 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide in the approximately 4 months since it emerged in Wuhan, China in December 2019. Comorbidities increase morbidity and mortality in COVID-19, and many laboratory parameters have been associated with mortality. The aim of the present study was to identify the relationship between endogenous carboxyhaemoglobin (COHb) level and the clinical course and prognosis of COVID-19. ⋯ COHb level may be an easily accessible biomarker that guides early follow-up and treatment planning to avoid ARDS, MAS and mortality in COVID-19.

Upper gastrointestinal bleeding in patients 80 years old and over. a comparison with younger patients and risk factors analysis for in-hospital and delayed mortality.
Outcomes in old patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) have been scarcely studied. Our aim was to compare very old individuals (>80 years old) with younger patients with UGIB, and to identify risk factors for the main outcomes. ⋯ Creatinine levels, cirrhosis or the onset of UGIB while being an inpatient were independent risk factors for mortality in very old patients. Delayed mortality was higher among them, mostly caused by cardiovascular events and neoplasms, but not in-hospital mortality.

A Study on Stress and Resilience among Hearing Impaired People During the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The aim of the study is to determine the acute stress and psychological resilience level of people with hearing impairment during the COVID-19 pandemic and to investigate the relationship between the grade of hearing impairment, psychological resilience and perceived stress level in this period. ⋯ Identifying risks and protective factors for hearing-impaired individuals at the early stage of the epidemic is considered to be of critical importance to predict the psychological impact of both the epidemic and the response to the COVID-19 health crisis and to reduce stress.
