Comparison of constipation and nutritional status with disease-related parameters in COPD patients.
The aim of the study was to determine the effects of constipation symptoms and nutritional status on disease-related parameters, such as disease duration, spirometry test and quality of life, of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. ⋯ According to our results, there were some changes in the nutrient intake depending on the duration of COPD, and possible constipation in COPD patients may affect the quality of life.

Cribriform glands are associated with worse outcome than other pattern 4 subtypes: A study of prognostic and clinicopathologic characteristics of prostate adenocarcinoma with an emphasis on Grade Groups.
Although prostate adenocarcinoma is the most common cancer in men, survival is quite high and with the help of histopathological examination using the updated classification, patient management strategies are developing. We aimed to evaluate the correlation between the histopathological features and biochemical recurrence (BCR) in patients who underwent radical prostatectomy (RP) using the new classification. ⋯ Histopathological evaluation is important in predicting BCR in prostate adenocarcinoma, the Group Grade system seems to be helpful in this regard. More studies are needed to prove the relatively worse prognostic effect of cribriform glands.

Correlation between serum sortilin levels and severity of extracranial carotid artery stenosis.
Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory vascular condition characterised by intimal thickening with cholesterol accumulation and macrophage foam cell infiltration causing plaque formation at the site of the injured vessel wall. This condition is a major contributor to carotid artery stenosis (CAS). Sortilin, a member of the mammalian vacuolar protein sorting 10 protein family, promotes uptake of low-density lipoprotein particles into macrophages with consequent foam cell formation independent of the low-density lipoprotein receptor, and thereby, accelerates atherosclerotic plaque formation and progression. We investigated the correlation between serum sortilin levels and the severity of extracranial CAS. ⋯ Current data suggest that prediction of severe CAS may serve as an atherosclerosis biomarker and significantly contribute to research on disease progression in atherosclerosis, as well as in other arterial diseases. Sortilin may be a potential therapeutic target owing to its role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerotic carotid artery disease.

Evaluation of the Diagnosed Incidental Diabetes Mellitus in Patients with Hyperglycemia in the Emergency Department.
This study was conducted to determine the frequency and clinical features of patients who were diagnosed incidentally as having diabetes mellitus (DM) in the emergency department. ⋯ Patients with blood sugar ≥200 mg/dL in the emergency department should be sent to the DM outpatient clinic. It was observed that regular drug use after the diagnosis of DM had a protective effect on renal disease.

miR-221, miR-190b, miR-363-3p, miR-200c are involved in rat liver ischemia-reperfusion injury through oxidative stress, apoptosis and endoplasmic reticulum stress.
In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationship between expression levels of micro-RNAs, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, apoptosis and oxidative stress markers in hepatic ischaemia-reperfusion (IR) injury. ⋯ There is a strong need to enlighten the physiopathological and molecular mechanisms of liver IR injury and to find more specific biomarkers for IR damage, and miR-221, miR-190b, miR-363-3p and miR-200c maybe used as potential biomarkers of hepatic IR injury.
