Evolution of computed tomography manifestations of eleven patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia.
Severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia is associated with high mortality. However, the evolution of computed tomography (CT) manifestations of severe COVID-19 pneumonia remains unclear, more evidence regarding its evolution process is urgently needed. ⋯ Most of patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia showed marked improvement of acute exudative lesions on chest imagings and satisfactory prognosis of severe COVID-19 pneumonia could be achieved after active treatment.

Comorbidities and their implications in patients with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. findings from the RICA Registry.
To determine if patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have a higher comorbidity burden than those without T2DM, if other comorbidities are preferentially associated with T2DM and if these conditions confer a worse patient prognosis. ⋯ Grouping our patients with HFpEF and T2DM into clusters based on comorbidities revealed a greater disease burden and prognostic implications associated with the T2DM phenotype, compared with those without T2DM.

Use of drug-eluting stents in elderly patients with acute myocardial infarction: An analysis of the Hungarian Myocardial Infarction Registry.
Bare-metal stents (BMS) are frequently implanted in elderly patients instead of drug-eluting stents (DES). We aimed to compare the prognosis of patients treated for myocardial infarction with the two types of stents over the age of 75. ⋯ Based on our analysis of a real-life, high-risk population, implantation of DES seems to be an advantageous strategy for elderly patients.

Choosing Wisely: Determining Performance of Unjustified Imaging in a Large Healthcare System.
The Choosing Wisely Campaign identifies procedures and treatments that lack clinical justification for routine use according to expert opinion and evidence-based medicine. This study describes the rates and features of two such examples over a 10-year period. ⋯ Overall, this study found that diagnostic imaging practices are applied inconsistently by hospital and by population. Intervention efforts should be focused on subpopulations at greatest risk to further reduce exposure to such imaging.

Importance of general adiposity, visceral adiposity and vital signs in predicting blood biomarkers using machine learning.
Blood biomarkers are measured for their ability to characterise physiological and disease states. Much is known about linear relations between blood biomarker concentrations and individual vital signs or adiposity indexes (eg, BMI). Comparatively little is known about non-linear relations with these easily accessible features, particularly when they are modelled in combination and can potentially interact with one another. ⋯ This work could lead to the formation of new hypotheses for explaining complex biological systems and informs the creation of predictive models for potential clinical applications.
