Detectable respiratory SARS-CoV-2 RNA is associated with low vitamin D levels and high social deprivation.
Accumulating evidence links COVID-19 incidence and outcomes with vitamin D status. We investigated if an interaction existed between vitamin D levels and social deprivation in those with and without COVID-19 infection. ⋯ In this cohort, combined low vitamin D levels and higher social deprivation were most associated with COVID-19 infection. In older age, this combination was even more significant. Our data support the recommendations for normalising vitamin D levels in those with deficient / insufficient levels and in groups at high risk for deficiency.

Changes in percutaneous approach to kidney stones in children: A single institute experience over 500 cases.
The aim of this study is to identify the changes in patient age and stone sizes with technological advancement over time. ⋯ Our study demonstrated that the patient's age and stone size at the time of initial diagnosis decrease over time while miniaturisation techniques increase in paediatric urology.

Prognostic Value of C-Reactive Protein to Albumin Ratio in Patients Resuscitated from Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest.
Despite major advances in basic and advanced life supports, patients who survived from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) have still poor prognosis. Several inflammatory parameters have been used to determine early and long-term prognosis in patients with OHCA. C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR) is also a novel marker of systemic inflammation. To our knowledge, there is no study evaluating the clinical importance of CAR in OHCA patients. ⋯ We have demonstrated for the first time that CAR was an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality in OHCA patients.

Place of cardiovascular risk prediction models in South Asians; agreement between Framingham risk score and WHO/ISH risk charts.
There are no cardiovascular risk prediction models developed in South Asian cohorts. Therefore, different risk models not validated in South Asians are being used. We aimed to compare cardiovascular risk predictions of Framingham risk score (FRS) and World Health Organization/International Society of Hypertension (WHO/ISH) charts for agreement in a sample of South Asians. ⋯ Cardiovascular risk predictions of FRS were higher than WHO/ISH charts and the agreement in risk stratification was not satisfactory in Sri Lankans. Therefore, different cardiovascular risk prediction models should not be used interchangeably in the follow-up of South Asians.

The value of serum thyroglobuline alteration after ultrasonography-guided fine-needle biopsy of suspicous cervical lymph nodes in the diagnosis of metastasis in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer.
It is known that serum thyroglobulin (TG) can increase after fine-needle biopsy of thyroid nodules. We aimed to determine whether TG is increased after ultrasonography (US)-guided fine needle capillary biopsy (FNC) of suspicious cervical lymph nodes (LNs) in thyroidectomised patients and investigate the possible association between change in TG and cytology results. ⋯ Serum TG increment and rate of patients with increased TG after FNC of suspicious cervical LNs were higher in patients with malignant cytology than with all other cytology results both in all study group and in sub-group of anti-TG positive patients. Increase in TG after FNC might be an additional tool for determining LN metastasis.
