Effect of COVID-19 Pandemic on Anxiety Depression And Intention To Go To Hospital in Chronic Patients.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on anxiety depression and intention to go to the hospital in chronic patients. ⋯ It was revealed that chronic patients did not have any intentions to go to hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic and only half of the people were willing to go to the hospital in case of emergency. Anxiety and depression levels were found to increase when COVID-19 patients were encountered or a relative had COVID-19.

Ureteral Wall Thickness is an Independent Parameter Affecting the Success of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy Treatment in Ureteral Stones above the Iliac Crest.
To investigate the relationship between ureteral wall thickness (UWT) and other variables of patients who underwent extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) in the primary treatment of the ureteral stone above the iliac crest level. ⋯ We found that UWT was the most important independent variable associated with increased failure in SWL treatment. The presence of multiple stones was another independent factor that increased the failure rates. Using SWL technology through experience accumulated with the mechanical hardware of the machine, we can select patients who are more suitable for this treatment and improve treatment outcomes.

Are average platelet volume, red cell distribution width and platelet distribution width guiding markers for acute appendicitis treatment options?
Acute appendicitis (AA) is the most common cause of surgery performed for the acute abdomen. The standard treatment for AA patients has been appendectomy for more than a century. The use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, the medical treatment option has come to the fore in the treatment of uncomplicated AA. ⋯ Recently, studies supporting antibiotic therapy have been conducted in patients diagnosed with AA. As a result, we think that PDW, RDW, and platelet values in patients diagnosed with uncomplicated AA may be a guide in choosing patients to be treated with surgery or antibiotics.

CD4+ and CD25+ T cell response to short-time interferon-beta therapy on IL10, IL23A and FOXP3 genes in multiple sclerosis patients.
Interferon-beta (IFN-β), multiple sclerosis (MS) drug for years, does not have therapeutic effects on each patient. Yet, a considerable portion has experienced no therapeutic response to IFN-β. Therefore, it is necessary to determine disease-specific biomarkers that affect drug response. Here, we aimed to determine the effects of interleukin 10 (IL10) and 23 (IL23A), as well as forkhead box P3 (FOXP3) genes on MS after IFN-β therapy. ⋯ Although a considerable change in expression was obtained, the long-term IFN-β effect on both genes and cells should be determined by follow-up at least a year.

Right Ventricular Contractility as a Potential Independent Evaluation Parameter in Pulmonary Hypertension.
Pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH) is a common disease with high disability and mortality rates, and can lead to right heart failure. We aimed to evaluate the capability of right ventricular pressure-volume coupling parameters, end-systolic elastance (Ees), right ventricular afterload (Ea), and arterial elastance (Ees/Ea) for assessing right ventricular performance during the chronic development of PAH. ⋯ Ees and Ees/Ea are promising independent reference parameters for assessing ventricular function in progressing PAH patients.
