Evaluation of non-invasive arterial stiffness parameters and their relationship with physical activity, anthropometric indices and lipid profiles in healthy middle-aged adults: results of the PERSIAN cohort study.
Arterial stiffness (AS) indicates the initial stage of cardiovascular disease (CVD), which is associated with modifiable and lifestyle risk factors. We aimed to examine the association of AS with anthropometric indices, lipid profiles and physical activity (PA). ⋯ WC, WHR and BRI were associated with both cf-PWV and cAIx. TGs and WHtR were associated with cf-PWV, while cAIx was associated with ABSI, improving these indices may be helpful to prevent CVD.

The agreement between arterial and venous lactate in patients with sepsis.
Arterial sampling, which is the gold standard for measuring lactate levels in sepsis, is more painful, requires experience and is associated with a higher incidence of morbidity, when compared with venous sampling. This study attempted to measure the correlation and agreement between arterial and peripheral venous (PV) lactate and between arterial and central venous (CV) lactate, with the objective to test interchangeability of the two and possibly support the use of venous lactate levels in resuscitating patients with sepsis. ⋯ Our study demonstrates a high level of agreement in the lactate levels as measured on venous samples and arterial samples. Venous lactate levels are reliable in resuscitation of patients with sepsis.

Evaluation of Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Postoperative Infections in Living Liver Donors.
To analyze developing infections after living donor hepatectomy (LDH) in living liver donors (LLDs). ⋯ Infections commonly observed infected biloma, cholangitis, and abscess arising from the biliary system and other nosocomial infections are the feared complications in LLDs. These infections should be managed multidisciplinary without delay and carefully.

Are the kidneys involved in lipoid proteinosis? Study of 22 patients.
Lipoid proteinosis (LP) is a systemic, progressive, rare genodermatosis that manifests in early life with mucocutaneous lesions. Kidney involvement has not been described before, hence we aimed to investigate kidney findings in LP patients. ⋯ Multiple simple renal cysts were detected in the majority of LP patients, and this finding could be part of the systemic involvement of the disease. Renal functions and biochemical parameters were within the normal reference range, but low serum albumin and high C-reactive protein levels in LP patients may be the signs of elevated systemic inflammation. Although more studies are needed to better define these findings, the presence of many simple renal cysts in LP patients was found to be the most important finding of this study.

The incidence and risk factors for early death among patients with oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the early mortality rate and associated factors for early death in oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas (OTSCC) patients. ⋯ Our results showed that a total of 3.6% patients with OTSCC suffered early death. Predictors of early death are primarily related to age older than 60 years, advanced T stage, advanced N stage, distant metastasis and no surgery but also include unmarried status, but better prognostic and predictive tools in larger sample to select early death patients are needed.
