Prediction Model of New Onset Atrial Fibrillation in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common complications of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients. Possible risk factors related to new-onset AF (NOAF) in ACS patients have been reported in some studies, and several prediction models have been established. However, the predictive power of these models was modest and lacked independent validation. The aim of this study is to define risk factors of NOAF in patients with ACS during hospitalization and to develop a prediction model and nomogram for individual risk prediction. ⋯ A model with strong predictive power was constructed for predicting the risk of NOAF in patients with ACS during hospitalization. It might help with the identification of ACS patients at risk and early intervention of NOAF during hospitalization.

Linear Regression Analysis of Sleep Quality in People with Insomnia in Wuhan City during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
COVID-19 has evolved into a major global public health event. The number of people reporting insomnia is growing exponentially during the pandemic. This study aimed to explore the relationship between aggravated insomnia and COVID-19-induced psychological impact on the public, lifestyle changes, and anxiety about the future. ⋯ Fear of COVID-19 can be one of the primary contributors to worsening insomnia.

Observational StudyIn-Hospital Mortality and Its Predictors among Hospitalized Diabetes Patients: A Prospective Observational Study.
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the leading health emergencies of the 21st century and among the top ten causes of death among adults globally in 2017. Although Ethiopia has been victimized by the growing prevalence of DM, data regarding in-hospital mortality among admitted diabetic patients in Ethiopia, specifically in Jimma Medical Center (JMC), are lacking. ⋯ This study showed the rate of in-hospital mortality was noticeably high. The study showed that rural residence, age, DKA, and having comorbidities (five and six) were the statistically significant predictors of in-hospital mortality. In contrast, the use of nonantidiabetic medications such as statins, ASA, and other antihypertensive agents before admission remained protective. Thus, proper strategies have to be devised to improve in-hospital mortality among admitted DM patients.

Observational StudyThe Associations of Platelet Activation and Coagulation Parameters with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea: A Large-Scale Observational Study.
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, with alterations in coagulability suspected as the mediating factor. This study explored blood coagulability and breathing-related parameters during sleep in patients with OSA. ⋯ Our study revealed nonlinear relationships between PDW and APTT, and AHI and ODI, in OSA, with AHI and ODI increasing the risk of an abnormal PDW and thus also the cardiovascular risk. This trial is registered with ChiCTR1900025714.

Association between Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D and Abdominal Aortic Calcification: A Large Cross-Sectional Study.
In the American population, the relationship between the standardized serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentration and the risk of abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) is unclear. The purpose of our study was to investigate the relationship between serum 25(OH)D concentration and AAC risk. Participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2013 and 2014 were analyzed cross sectionally. ⋯ In addition, the degree of AAC decreased at first and then increased as the serum 25(OH)D concentration increased. In conclusion, a U-shaped relationship existed between serum 25(OH)D concentration and the risk of AAC and SAAC. Consequently, the risk of AAC and SAAC may be mitigated with regular monitoring and vitamin D supplementation.
