Randomized Controlled TrialAn investigation and comparison of the effectiveness of different exercise programmes in improving glucose metabolism and pancreatic β cell function of type 2 diabetes patients.
Moderately intensive aerobic exercise can improve glucose metabolism and pancreatic β cell function in diabetic patients. To date, there is no evidence to support the long-term effectiveness of home-based exercise interventions on these outcomes. ⋯ This study demonstrates that regardless of the type of exercise intervention, it is potentially beneficially effective for glucose metabolism and pancreatic β cell function in T2DM patients. The AMSG had better glucose metabolism and pancreatic β cell function compared with those in the AEG. Nurses can easily integrate exercise interventions into T2DM patient care plans.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyTreatment of patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain in China: a double-blind randomised trial of duloxetine vs. placebo.
Duloxetine has been approved in the United States, European Union and some Asian countries for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP). We assessed the efficacy and safety of duloxetine (60 mg once daily) compared with placebo in Chinese patients suffering from DPNP. ⋯ Duloxetine-treated patients showed significantly greater pain relief compared with placebo-treated patients over the 12-week study period. Duloxetine was shown in Chinese patients to have a safety profile similar to that found in previous duloxetine trials.

Review Meta AnalysisChronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease are risk factors for poor outcomes of Clostridium difficile infection: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to assess the clinical outcomes of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) in patients with chronic kidney diseases (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). ⋯ This meta-analysis demonstrates poor outcomes of CDI including severe and recurrent CDI in CKD patients. History of CKD and ESRD are both associated with increased mortality risk in patients with CDI.

Review Meta AnalysisInfluenza, influenza-like symptoms and their association with cardiovascular risks: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies.
To synthesise the evidence relating influenza and influenza-like symptoms to the risks of myocardial infarction (MI), heart failure (HF) and stroke. ⋯ There is an association between influenza-like illness and cardiovascular events, but the relationship is less clear with serologically diagnosed influenza. We recommend renewed efforts to apply current clinical guidelines and maximise the uptake of annual influenza immunisation among patients with cardiovascular diseases, to decrease their risks of MI and stroke.

Publication planning: promoting an ethics of transparency and integrity in biomedical research.
Biomedical research should include plans to communicate complete and accurate results to the scientific community and the public in a timely manner. All too often, however, such planning is lacking until after data have been generated. We developed a collaborative professional statement following review of the indexed biomedical literature and relevant professional society guidelines. ⋯ Although the most obvious contribution of publication planning is to result dissemination, the best planning may also help improve the overall quality of research study design and the overall integrity of study conduct by keeping the final audience in the forefront of the investigators' attention. Publication planning can help biomedical researchers achieve and maintain high standards of transparency and integrity. Table 1 below highlights briefly some of the aspects to be included in a publication plan.
