Central neuropathic pain (CNP) is an excruciating condition, prevalent in up to a third of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Identifying CNP among MS patients is particularly challenging considering the ample comorbid chronic pain conditions and sensory disturbances entailed by the disease. The aim was to identify sensory features unique to CNP beyond those of chronic pain and MS. ⋯ Cluster analysis among patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) revealed that while central neuropathic pain is associated with thermal and mechanical hypoesthesia, musculoskeletal pain is involved with reduced pain inhibition and hyperalgesia; sensory profiles that provide insights into the mechanisms of these conditions and may promote an individually based pain management.

It has been suggested that chronotype, the individual preference for 24-h circadian rhythms, influences health. Sleep problems and mental distress are amongst the greatest risk factors for musculoskeletal (MS) pain. The aims of this study were first, to explore the associations between chronotypes and MS pain, with special reference to disabling MS pain and second, to test whether mental distress and insomnia have a modifying role in the associations between chronotypes and MS pain. ⋯ This study shows that evening and intermediate chronotypes are associated with disabling MS pain, but that mental distress, insomnia and coexisting diseases also play a role in these associations.

Efficacy and safety of botulinum A toxin for the treatment of chronic peripheral neuropathic pain: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials and meta-analysis.
Botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) is a recently developed treatment for the management of peripheral neuropathic pain. The objective of this study was to provide a synthesis of the evidence concerning the efficacy and safety of subcutaneous botulinum toxin type A injections. ⋯ We found that botulinum toxin is efficient and safe for the treatment of neuropathic pain, especially for diabetic polyneuropathy. Botulinum toxin type A, used for years in neurology, rehabilitation and physical medicine, has proved innocuous and effective, and should be considered as a serious alternative for pain treatment.

A Single-blind, randomized, pilot study of a brief Mindfulness-Based Intervention for the endometriosis-related pain management.
Women with endometriosis suffer from frequent symptoms despite multiple treatments in tertiary care. Although there is a need for a biopsychosocial perspective on endometriosis treatment, few conservative treatments have been investigated. We aimed to investigate the effects of a brief Mindfulness-Based Intervention (bMBI) in women with deep endometriosis who remain symptomatic despite undergoing conventional medical treatment. ⋯ Brief Mindfulness-Based Intervention (bMBI) improved endometriosis-related pain and mental health compared to standard medical care. The present findings contribute to the applicability of MBI in visceral pain patients.
