Most previous studies have reported superior results when blue dye and radiocolloids were used together for sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy in early breast cancer. Blue dye was reported to perform poorly when used alone, although more recent studies have found otherwise. This study reviewed the authors' practice of performing SLN biopsy with blue dye alone. ⋯ Blue dye performed well as a single modality for SLN biopsy. Non-identification, axillary nodal recurrence and serious allergic reactions were uncommon.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Arm lymphoedema after axillary surgery in women with invasive breast cancer.
The primary aim was to compare arm lymphoedema after sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) alone versus axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) in women with node-negative and node-positive breast cancer. The secondary aim was to examine the potential association between self-reported and objectively measured arm lymphoedema. ⋯ SLNB is associated with a minimal risk of increased arm volume and few symptoms of arm lymphoedema, significantly less than after ALND, regardless of lymph node status.

Review Meta Analysis
Systematic review and meta-analysis of use of serum C-reactive protein levels to predict anastomotic leak after colorectal surgery.
Several recent studies have investigated the role of C-reactive protein (CRP) as an early marker of anastomotic leakage following colorectal surgery. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the predictive value of CRP in this setting. ⋯ CRP is a useful negative predictive test for the development of anastomotic leakage following colorectal surgery.

Review Meta Analysis
Systematic review and meta-analysis of predictors of post-thyroidectomy hypocalcaemia.
Hypocalcaemia is common after thyroidectomy. Accurate prediction and appropriate management may help reduce morbidity and hospital stay. The aim of this study was to perform a systematic literature review and meta-analysis of predictors of post-thyroidectomy hypocalcaemia. ⋯ Perioperative PTH, preoperative vitamin D and postoperative changes in calcium are biochemical predictors of post-thyroidectomy hypocalcaemia. Clinical predictors include female sex, Graves' disease, need for parathyroid autotransplantation and inadvertent excision of PTGs.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Randomized clinical trial of single- versus multi-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
There are no randomized studies that compare outcomes after single-incision (SLC) and conventional multi-incision (MLC) laparoscopic cholecystectomy under an optimized perioperative analgesic regimen. ⋯ NCT01268748 (http://www.clinicaltrials.gov).
