Risk prediction model for early outcomes of revascularization for chronic limb-threatening ischaemia.
Quantifying the risks and benefits of revascularization for chronic limb-threatening ischaemia (CLTI) is important. The aim of this study was to create a risk prediction model for treatment outcomes 30 days after revascularization in patients with CLTI. ⋯ This risk prediction model can help in deciding on the treatment strategy in patients with CLTI and serve as an index for evaluating the quality of each medical facility.

Within-patient randomized clinical trial comparing incisional negative-pressure wound therapy with suction drains in gender-affirming mastectomies.
Incisional negative-pressure wound therapy (iNPWT) is widely adopted by different disciplines for multiple indications. Questions about the most appropriate uses and value of iNPWT have been raised. ⋯ Substituting short-term suction drains with iNPWT in gender-affirming mastectomies increased the seroma rates and did not decrease the amount of wound healing complications. Bariatric surgery is an established treatment for severe obesity; however, fewer than 1 per cent of eligible patients undergo surgery. The perceived risk of surgery may contribute to the low uptake. The aim of this study was to determine perioperative mortality associated with bariatric surgery, comparing different operation types and data sources. ⋯ Bariatric surgery is safe, with low reported perioperative mortality rates.

Future innovations in science and technology with an impact on multimodal breast cancer management from a surgical perspective are discussed in this narrative review. The work was undertaken in response to the Commission on the Future of Surgery project initiated by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. ⋯ Treatments are increasingly being tailored and based on improved understanding of tumour biology and relevant biomarkers to determine absolute benefit and permit delivery of cost-effective healthcare. Patient involvement is crucial for breast cancer studies to ensure relevance and outcome measures that are objective, meaningful, and patient-centred.

Most current models for predicting survival after resection of colorectal liver metastasis include largest diameter and number of colorectal liver metastases as dichotomous variables, resulting in underestimation of the extent of risk variation and substantial loss of statistical power. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a new prognostic model for patients undergoing liver resection including largest diameter and number of colorectal liver metastases as continuous variables. ⋯ The contour prognostic model, based on diameter and number of lesions considered as continuous variables along with RAS mutation, predicts overall survival after resection of colorectal liver metastasis.
