Prognostic impact of tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes and cancer-associated fibroblasts in patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma of the body and tail undergoing resection.
The prognosis of patients with pancreatic cancer remains poor and novel therapeutic targets are required urgently. Treatment resistance could be due to the tumour microenvironment, a desmoplastic stroma consisting of cancer-associated fibroblasts and tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs). The aim of the study was to evaluate the prognostic value of TILs and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in pancreatic cancer of the body and tail. ⋯ In patients with resected left-sided pancreatic cancer, a tumour microenvironment characterized by a high CD4/CD3 lymphocyte ratio along with a low αSMA/vimentin ratio is correlated with poorer survival.

Breast cancer diagnosis based on lipid profiling by probe electrospray ionization mass spectrometry.
Probe electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (PESI-MS) is an ambient ionization-based mass spectrometry method that surpasses the original electrospray ionization technique in features such as the rapidity of analysis, simplicity of the equipment and procedure, and lower cost. This study found that the PESI-MS system with machine learning has the potential to establish a lipid-based diagnosis of breast cancer with higher accuracy, using a simpler approach. The impact of number of node metastases versus metastatic lymph node ratio versus AJCC node category on biochemical cure in medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) is not well defined. ⋯ Number of lymph node metastases, unlike metastatic lymph node ratio or AJCC node category, determines likelihood of biochemical cure after initial and repeat surgery for node-positive MTC.
