Clinical TrialFascia iliaca compartment block for femoral bone fractures in prehospital care.
The fascia iliaca compartment block provides a faster and more consistent simultaneous blockade of the lateral cutaneous and femoral nerves than the "3 in 1" block. We studied the effectiveness of this technique for analgesia after a femoral bone fracture in pre-hospital care. ⋯ The fascia iliaca compartment block is a simple, inexpensive, and effective method of prehospital analgesia for femoral shaft fracture. A sensory block of the internal part of the thigh is an early predictive sign of optimal pain relief.

A paramedian approach for epidural block: an anatomic and radiologic description.
Certain factors, such as intervertebral disc herniation, previous spinal surgery, and osteoarthritis may cause problems during the midline epidural procedure. The purpose of this study was to investigate the placement of the needle tip in an alternative paramedian approach in a cadaver, and radiographically measure the target interlaminar area at different levels (L3/L4; L4/L5; L5/S1) in different age groups. ⋯ This anatomically-based study confirms needle placement through the interlaminar space using an alternative paramedian approach and may explain the difficulties encountered during placement of an epidural needle with increasing age.
