Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common solid cancer affecting men worldwide. Serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is at present the most commonly used biomarker for PCa screening, as well as a reliable marker of disease recurrence after initial treatment. Bone metastases (BM) are present in advanced stages of the disease. ⋯ So, 18 F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT imaging seems to be very promising in staging and restaging patients with PCa, especially when biochemical relapse is under consideration. Although it seems to perform better than other imaging modalities like bone scan, 18 F-FDG PET/CT or 18 F-choline PET/CT, its high cost and low availability must be considered. Further large studies need to be conducted in order to evaluate the accuracy and the predictive values of this method, emphasizing on bone metastases.

To evaluate the role of fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in identifying the cause of fever of unknown origin (FUO) in patients on renal replacement therapy (RRT) for end-stage renal disease (ESRD). ⋯ About half of the 18F-FDG-PET/CT scans (22/46) identified the cause of FUO in patients on RRT for ESRD. The clinical utility of 18F-FDG PET/CT in this group of patients is comparable to its average performance in the unselected patients' population evaluated for FUO. A higher CRP level was predictive of a positive 18F-FDG PET/CT outcome.

To evaluate the role of fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in therapy response assessment according modified response evaluating criteria of solid tumors (mRECIST) and the predictive role of volume-based semi-quantitative parameters in patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). Furthermore modified RECIST criteria for MPM mRECIST and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) criteria were compared and the predictive role of 18F-FDG PET/CT in the post-therapy outcome. ⋯ The semi-quantitative analysis of 18F-FDG PET/CT has an important role in MPM therapy response assessment and has a predictive role in distinguishing responders and non-responders.

Subjects with end stage renal disease (ESRD) are exposed to increased morbidity and mortality due to cardiovascular events. The primary underlying mechanism has been suggested as accelerated atherosclerosis in these patients. Our aim was to compare the atherosclerotic inflammation and calcification in subjects with ESRD on hemodialysis to that in normal controls utilizing fluorine-18-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT). ⋯ SUV measurements representing the atherosclerotic inflammatory changes and macroscopic atherosclerotic calcifications appear to be accelerated in subjects with ESRD on hemodialysis compared to normal controls. Fluorine-18 FDG PET/CT is a valuable diagnostic tool for verifying and quantifying accelerated atherosclerosis secondary to ESRD.

In this study we aimed to evaluate the role of technetium-99m pertechnetate whole body scan (99mTc WBS) with single photon emission tomography/computed tomography (SPET/CT) in detecting remnant thyroid tissue, nodal and distant metastases, in differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) patients before radioiodine (131I) therapy. ⋯ Our findings suggested that 99mTc WBS is a useful imaging modality in detecting remnant thyroid tissue, nodal and distant metastases before 131I therapy. The additional SPET/CT scan when needed in 18 cases supported the 99mTc WBS diagnosis.
