Case Reports
[Sclerosing lipogranuloma (paraffin-induced granuloma) of the penis with a clinical picture of carcinoma].
A case of sclerosing lipogranuloma (paraffinoma) of the penis is presented. The clinical manifestations of the lesion were very similar to those of squamous-cell carcinoma of the penis. In such cases, the correct diagnosis can be made from a precise history, the characteristic histological features and, if necessary, special chemical lipid analyses.

Sulfites are widely used as preservatives and antioxidants in foods and drugs, often without specification. Sulfite can lead to severe hypersensitivity reactions, asthma being obviously the most frequent symptom, but also urticaria, angioedema, or other anaphylactoid symptoms may occur. Furthermore, allergic leukocytoclastic vasculitis and exacerbation of an atopic eczema have been observed. ⋯ Asthmatic reactions have been attributed to reflectory activation of the parasympathetic system by the irritating effect of sulfites, possibly enhanced by a deficiency of sulfite oxidase. Besides this pseudo-allergic mechanism, for at least some cases of sulfite hypersensitivity an IgE-mediated immediate-type allergic reaction has to be considered. The diagnosis of sulfite hypersensitivity is based on provocation testing, which must be done with extreme caution.

The coexistence of psoriasis and bullous pemphigoid in 44 patients has been described in the literature. In the majority of cases no causative agent was found for the development of bullous pemphigoid, but in many cases the bullous eruption was related to antipsoriatic treatment such as PUVA, anthralin, tar and salicylic acid. ⋯ After clearing, a later exacerbation of both psoriasis and bullous pemphigoid indicated that there is a pathogenetic relationship between the diseases. Among 72 patients with bullous pemphigoid no others suffered from psoriasis.
