Valor pronóstico de la proadrenomedulina y el NT-proBNP en los pacientes procedentes de urgencias con síndrome gripal.
To assess the prognostic value of procalcitonin (PTC), C-reactive protein (CRP), N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), and mid-regional pro-adrenomedullin (MR-proADM) in patients with influenza syndrome. ⋯ NT-proBNP and MR-proADM were the only biomarkers with prognostic value. Only NT-proBNP was a useful predictor in patients with confirmed influenza.

To explore whether episodes of exposure to atmospheric Saharan dust is a risk factor for hospitalization in patients with acute heart failure (AHF) attended in a hospital emergency department (ED). ⋯ In the absence of prospective studies, the results of this series suggest that exposure to high levels of Saharan dust (PM10 concentrations between 50 and 200 µg/m3) may be a precipitating factor for hospitalization in AHF episodes.

Observational Study
Formación de escolares en soporte vital básico por sus propios profesores.
To assess first-year secondary-school students' knowledge and performance of basic life support (BLS) 6 months after training given by their regular teachers during school hours. ⋯ Teachers' training of their own first-year secondary students during regular school hours led to changes in the students' attitudes toward the possibility of cardiac arrest and to the learning of BLS techniques.

This project analyzed the feasibility, effectiveness, and sustainability of an educational project to teach cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This project has been carried out in a publicly subsidized school in a town in Asturias, Spain (population, over 80 000 inhabitants). The enrollment included students in preschool and both primary and secondary education classes. ⋯ The teachers have made further improvements in the courses, incorporating new teaching materials, updating the objectives, and extending instruction to secondary school students. The implementation of an educational program to teach CPR in a school that enrolls preschool through secondary school students was feasible and sustainable. Teachers have improved the program, extended it to secondary school students, and made the project known in the local media and on the school's web site, thus contributing to the creation of a CPR culture that reached out to the community.
