Uncontrolled bleeding from serious injuries continues to be one of the main causes of preventable deaths outside hospitals. Tourniquets could be useful for quickly stemming blood flow and prevent exsanguination, although evidence supporting their use and effectiveness in civilian accidents is limited. To analyze the effectiveness of tourniquets for stopping bleeding in out-of-hospital emergencies and to explore factors associated with effectiveness. ⋯ Tourniquets are effective for stopping massive blood loss. There are few complications, most of which are attributable to the critical state of patients rather than to application of the tourniquet. A tourniquet should be applied in major trauma cases in civilian settings if massive, life-threatening bleeding cannot be stopped with direct pressure.

Planning to reduce 30-day adverse events after discharge of frail elderly patients with acute heart failure: design and rationale for the DEED FRAIL-AHF trial.
To demonstrate the efficacy of a system for comprehensive care transfer (Multilevel Guided Discharge Plan [MGDP]) for frail older patients diagnosed with acute heart failure (AHF) and to validate the results of MGDP implementation under real clinical conditions. The MGDP seeks to reduce the number of adverse outcomes within 30 days of emergency department (ED) discharge. ⋯ The study will assess the efficacy and feasibility of comprehensive MGDP transfer of care for frail older AHF patients discharged home.

Multicenter Study Observational Study
Immediate and 30 days mortality in digoxin poisoning cases attended in the Hospital Emergency Services of Catalonia, Spain.
Digoxin poisoning is a frequent reason for seeking emergency care. This study aimed to assess mortality related to digoxin poisoning. ⋯ Immediate mortality is related to a high digoxin concentration in serum, and 30-day mortality to a low Barthel index.

Virtual reality in cardiopulmonary resuscitation training: a randomized trial.
To assess the efficacy of virtual reality (VR) in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training. ⋯ Training with VR can improve CPR theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
