[The impact of obesity on the outcomes of the patients operated on due to Schatzker type I and type II tibial plateau fractures].
This study aimed to conduct a clinical and radiological analysis of treatment results in Schatzker type I and type II tibial plateau fractures and investigate the effect of Body Mass Index on these results. ⋯ In Type II fractures, the results of obese patients were found to be worse when compared to patients with normal weight. While obesity is not a problem which can be overcome in a short time interval, close follow-up and careful rehabilitation are essential to achieve good results in this group of patients.

[The effect of ligustrazin in intestinal ischemia reperfusion injury generated on rats].
Intestinal ischemia is a serious and common clinical status. It develops as result of superior mesenteric artery (SMA) obstruction caused by many etiologic factors. Sepsis and multiple organ failure could develop following intestinal ischemia. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of ligustrazin, which has a vasodilator impact on intestinal ischemia. ⋯ As a result of this study, Ligustrazin was found to adjust lipid peroxidation in biochemical parameters during mesenteric I-R and decrease the severity of damage of I-R on the histopathological scores of the jejunum and ileum.

As in many other countries, burn injuries are a challenging healthcare problem in Turkey. Initial management of burn patients is very important for future morbidity and mortality. Therefore, the Turkish Ministry of Health prepared "National Burns Treatment Algorithm" aided by the Scientific Burns Council. ⋯ The Council started to work on this algorithm in 2011. Various consultants, including general surgeons, pediatric surgeons, aesthetic, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anesthesiologists, and intensive care physicians, revised the first draft and it was sent to eight education and research hospitals of the Ministry of Health, four universities, and seven non-governmental organizations. In the last quarter of 2012, the algorithm was finalized and approved by the Scientific Council, after which, it was approved by the Ministry of Health and published.

Comparative Study[Comparison of lateral deltoid splitting and deltopectoral approaches in the treatment of proximal humerus fractures].
Fractures of the proximal humerus that limit function are quite common. The objective of this retrospective study was to compare deltoid splitting and deltopectoral approaches by using the same fixation method. ⋯ Deltoid splitting approach, especially with AO/ASIF B and C type fractures, enables reduction and plate fixing under 270 degree control of the proximal humerus without forceful retraction and soft tissue damage, providing easy access to posterior tubercular fragment. Compared to deltopectoral approach, patients treated with deltoid splitting approach achieved higher Constant scores at an earlier stage. Lateral deltoid splitting approach, by exploring the axillary nerve, is a useful surgical technique which provides an expansive and multi-dimensional control without risking the deltoid muscle function and the axillary nerve.

Case ReportsBouveret syndrome: A fatal diagnostic dilemma of gastric outlet obstruction.
The patient presented in this study was a 54-year-old woman complaining of nausea and vomiting, onset preceding four days, with no significant past medical history and an unremarkable surgical history. The patient was afebrile and hypertensive. Physical examination revealed a non-tender abdomen, and initial laboratory evaluation revealed elevated blood glucose level, ketonuria, leukocytosis, elevated C-reactive protein, gamma glutamyl transferase, lactate dehydrogenase, and total bilirubin. ⋯ A longitudinal enterotomy was made, and the stone was extracted. Her drains were cleared on postoperative day 5, and gastrointestinal function returned to normal. Unfortunately, the patient developed an overwhelming sepsis due to bacteremia and fungemia, and died on post-operative day 19.
