Efficacy of Annona muricata (graviola) in experimental spinal cord injury: biochemical and histopathological analysis.
Annona muricata (AM) (graviola) is a plant that grows in tropical regions and is thought to be good for many diseases by local people. Unfortunately, there is no acceptable medical treatment for spinal cord injury (SCI) yet. In our study, we investigated the neuropeotective effects of AM leaf extract on SCI in an experimental rat model. ⋯ Our histopathological and biochemical results showed that AM is an agent with neuroprotective effects in trau-matic SCI.

The efficiency of oxerutin on apoptosis and kidney function in rats with renal ischemia reperfusion injury.
Background: Renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (RIRI) is the most frequent cause of acute renal failure in clinical conditions such as trauma and shock as well as renal surgeries. Oxerutin is a member of the flavonoid family and possesses antioxidant properties. The aim of this study was to investigate whether oxerutin has protective effects on RIRI. ⋯ The findings obtained in this study show that prophylactic administration of oxerutin has protective effects on apoptosis and renal failure caused by RIRI. Therefore, oxerutin can be used as an effective prophylactic agent in the treatment of RIRI.

Influence of galantamine on peripheral nerve degeneration after experimental compression injury of the rat sciatic nerve.
Galantamine is well-known for its neuroprotective effects and is currently used in the treatment of individuals with Alzheimer's disease. In this study, we induced experimental sciatic nerve injury (SCI) in rats to test the beneficial effects of galantamine. ⋯ In our experimental model, pharmacological intervention with galantamine demonstrated a protective effect on degeneration after peripheral nerve injury.

Case ReportsNon-traumatic spontaneous ruptured hepatocellular adenoma after selective transcatheter arterial chemo-embolization for reduction of tumor mass: A case report.
It is important to detect hepatic adenomas, which are generally well-confined lesions, as urgent treatment is required due to the risk of bleeding and conversion to malignancy. Dimensions can vary between 1 and 15 cm, and the risk of hemorrhage is higher in large and multiple-focus adenomas. The case is here presented of a patient with spontaneous ruptured liver adenoma after selective transcatheter arterial chemo-embolization for reduction of tumor mass, with discussion of the clinical, computed tomography, angiographic findings, and treatment strategies.

Determination of factors associated with perforation in patients with geriatric acute appendicitis.
Recognition and management of abdominal emergencies in geriatric patients are more complicated compared to the younger population. We aimed to investigate the demographic characteristics of geriatric patients diagnosed with acute appendicitis and to investigate the factors associated with perforation in the early stages in this study. ⋯ Geriatric patients with chronic kidney disease can be at higher risk of perforated appendicitis due to inadequate abdominal physical examination results. In addition, male gender and an elevated neutrophil count are independent predictors of perforation.
