A comparison of patients who have appendectomy during the COVID-19 pandemic period with the period before the pandemic.
This study aims to compare the waiting and operating times of the patients who applied to our hospital with the diagnosis of acute appendicitis (AA) during the pandemic, how the process was managed in terms of AA and other data of the patient compared to the pre-pandemic period. ⋯ During the COVID-19 pandemic, significant decrease observed in the number of patients operated because of AA can be interpreted as the avoidance of patients from applying to the hospital with the concern of infection. Moreover, it may suggest that uncomplicated cases undergo spontaneous resolution; however, there is a requirement for further research to support this assumption and define the criteria for this condition by including a level of scientific evidence.

Case ReportsAirway management of major blunt tracheal and esophageal injury: A case report.
Trans-sectional injuries of trachea are quite rare and can be extremely challenging for anesthesiologists to deal with. About 25% of post-traumatic deaths are due to thoracic traumas in which blunt injuries take a rather small place within and the resultant damage of respiratory tract is quite rare with an incidence of 0.5-2%. A recent review from a single trauma center revealed an incidence of 0.4% for tracheobronchial injury (TBI) due to blunt thoracic injuries. ⋯ Emergent surgery is preferred seldomly; such in cases of partial damage or because of late diagnosis, due to favorable outcome of conservative approach. Herein, we report the management of a case on TBI due to blunt thoracic trauma, experiencing difficult ventilation despite tracheal intubation. Fiber-optic bronchoscope (FOB) seems obligatory to visualize site and severity of injury and to ensure safe airway during procedures such as the neck exploration, primary end-to-end anastomosis of the trachea, tracheostomy, diversion pharyngostomy, and feeding jejunostomy.

Case ReportsThoracic splenosis mimicking pleural tumor after firearm injury: A case report with long-term follow-up.
Splenosis describe a clinical entity of autotransplantation after removal of the spleen secon-dary to a traumatic rupture or surgery. A 39-year-old female was referred to thoracic surgery department with complaints of severe chest pain. She had left thoracic and abdominal gun-shot injury that occurred 19 years earlier. ⋯ Thoracic splenosis can occur in patients who underwent abdominothoracic gunshot injury. The implants did not seem to change in long-term follow-up. Thoracic splenosis may occur, persist for years and it mimics pleural tumor after abdominal gun-shot injury and does not seem to necessitate any surgical intervention including diaphragmatic repair.

Use of deep learning methods for hand fracture detection from plain hand radiographs.
Patients with hand trauma are usually examined in emergency departments of hospitals. Hand fractures are frequently observed in patients with hand trauma. Here, we aim to develop a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) method to assist physicians in the diagnosis of hand fractures using deep learning methods. ⋯ We achieved promising results in this CAD method, which we developed by applying methods such as transfer learning, data augmentation, which are state-of-the-art practices in deep learning applications. This CAD method can assist physicians working in the emergency departments of small hospitals when interpreting hand radiographs, especially when it is difficult to reach qualified colleagues, such as night shifts and weekends.

Overtime, agricultural machines have been designed appropriate to more simple needs, instead of tractors which have a wide area of use. An example of these is the 'patpat,' so named because of the sound of the motor, and for which the main purpose is ploughing. ⋯ Patpat accidents are a serious problem because of the frequency of use of these vehicles without proper supervision and especially because of the hazardous topographical conditions where they are used.
