CGRP 4218T/C polymorphism correlated with postoperative analgesic effect of fentanyl.
Our study aimed at evaluating the association between α-calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) 4218T/C polymorphism and the patient-controlled analgesic (PCA) effect of fentanyl on Chinese Han population. ⋯ CGRP 4218T/C polymorphism may be associated with the postoperative fentanyl consumption for analgesia.

A modified "double-hit" induced acute lung injury model in rats and protective effects of tetramethylpyrazine on the injury via Rho/ROCK pathway.
We focused on the production and evaluation of a modified "double-hit" induced acute lung injury (ALI) model, which closely mimics the clinical situation. Further, tetramethylpyrazine (TMP), an alkaloid contained in ligustrazine was evaluated for its potent anti-inflammatory effects in this model. Rats were randomized into 4 groups: G1 (NS control group), G2 ("double-hit" group), G3 (low dosage TMP group) and G4 (high dosage TMP group). ⋯ The rats in G3, G4 were intraperitoneally injected with low (G3), high (G4) dosage TMP for the protection against ALI. Upon termination of the experiment, TMP attenuated the harmful changes in animal model reaction, breathing frequency, histological examination, lung W/D-weight ratio, BAL fluid PMNs percentage, MPO activity and ROCK2 mRNA expression. We found inhibiting RhoA/ROCK pathway might attribute to TMP-induced protection against ALI.

BTLA associates with increased Foxp3 expression in CD4(+) T cells in dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis.
Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease, and its pathogenesis involves a variety of genetic, environmental, and immunological factors such as T helper cells and their secreted cytokines. B and T lymphocyte attenuator (BTLA) is an immunoregulatory receptor that has a strong suppressive effect on T-cell function. However the role of BTLA in UC remains poorly understood. ⋯ Similarly, the proportion of IL-17+ cells in BTLA+ CD4(+) T cells from LPMCs in DSS-treated mice is much higher than that in controls, while no perceptible difference for the proportion of IFN-γ+ cells in BTLA+ CD4(+) T cells was noted between DSS-treated mice and controls. Treatment of mesalazine, an anti-ulcerative colitis drug, down-regulated Foxp3 and IL-17 expression in BTLA positive T cells along with attenuated severity for colitis. Our findings indicate that BTLA may be involved in the control of inflammatory responses through increasing Foxp3 expression, rather than attenuating IL-17 production, in DSS-induced colitis.

Comparative StudyComparison of systemic inflammation response and vital organ damage induced by severe burns in different area.
In this study, we will establish a stable and optimized rat model that can meet strictly diagnosed criteria and serve as a tool to investigate the potential of novel therapeutics in this preclinical model through comparative analysis of systemic alterations, levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in serum and infiltrated numbers of inflammatory cells in distant organ between 30% and 50% TBSA with a full-thickness burn. ⋯ We choose 50% TBSA with a full-thickness burn to establish a stable and optimized rat model that can meet strictly diagnosed criteria and serve as a tool to investigate the potential of novel therapeutics in this preclinical model.

Transient downregulation of microRNA-206 protects alkali burn injury in mouse cornea by regulating connexin 43.
Chemical burn in cornea may cause permanent visual problem or complete blindness. In the present study, we investigated the role of microRNA 206 (miR-206) in relieving chemical burn in mouse cornea. ⋯ miR-206, associated with Cx43, is a novel molecular modulator in alkali burn in mouse cornea.
