A novel sonification strategy for auditory display of heart rate and oxygen saturation changes in clinical settings.
The aim of this study was development of a sonification scheme to convey deviations in heart rate and oxygen saturation from a desired target level. ⋯ The results can be applied to clinical monitoring settings in which a stream of discrete auditory informational items is indicated.

Our objective is to provide thumb reach envelopes to help guide the placement of controls on handheld devices and to provide useful methods to gather and analyze thumb reach data. ⋯ The thumb reach envelopes should be applicable to the design of many handheld, interactive devices with dimensions similar to the models used in this study. The method presented allows design teams to collect and analyze thumb reach data quickly and inexpensively for different target user populations or product dimensions.

This study was aimed at examining team communication during postoperative handover and its relationship to clinicians' self-ratings of handover quality. ⋯ The identification of communication behaviors related to high-quality handovers is necessary to effectively support the design and evaluation of handover improvement efforts.

This study is designed to evaluate heavy-truck drivers' following behavior and how a crash warning system influences their headway maintenance. ⋯ The installation of such in-vehicle crash warning systems can help heavy-truck drivers keep longer headway distances in challenging situations and respond quicker to potential traffic conflicts, therefore possibly increasing heavy-truck longitudinal driving safety.

Comparative Study
Long-term efficacy of an ergonomics program that includes patient-handling devices on reducing musculoskeletal injuries to nursing personnel.
The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term efficacy of an ergonomics program that included patient-handling devices in six long-term care facilities (LTC) and one chronic care hospital (CCH). ⋯ Implementation of patient-handling devices along with a comprehensive program can be effective in reducing MSDs among nursing personnel. Strategies to expand usage of patient-handling devices in most health care settings should be explored.
