Fluorescence-guided surgery using 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is a promising real-time navigation method in the surgical resection of malignant gliomas. In order to determine whether this method is applicable to metastatic brain tumors, we evaluated the usefulness of intraoperative fluorescence patterns and histopathological features in patients with metastatic brain tumors. ⋯ Peritumoral fluorescence may be a good intraoperative indicator of tumor extent, preceding more complete microscopic gross total resection.

Analysis of microRNA (miRNA) expression profiles reveals 11 key biomarkers associated with non-small cell lung cancer.
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for more than 85% of lung cancer cases which cause most of cancer-related deaths globally. However, the results vary largely in different studies due to different platforms and sample sizes. Here, we aim to identify the key miRNAs in the carcinogenesis of NSCLC that might be potential biomarkers for this cancer. ⋯ In this study, 11 meta-signature miRNAs, as well as their target genes and transcription factors, were found to play significant role in carcinogenesis of NSCLC. These target genes identified in our study may be profitable to diagnosis and prognostic prediction of NSCLC as biomarkers.

Clinical outcome of laparoscopic complete mesocolic excision in the treatment of right colon cancer.
This study aimed to investigate the clinical outcome of complete mesocolic excision (CME) with a caudal-to-cranial medial approach in the treatment of right colon cancer. ⋯ Laparoscopic CME with a caudal-to-cranial medial approach in the treatment of right colon cancer had good short-term efficacy and satisfactory oncological outcome.

Fertility-sparing surgery is indicated for patients with stage I epithelial ovarian cancers. We sought to evaluate the clinical outcomes and oncofertility in a cohort of patients of reproductive age with stage I epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). ⋯ Grade 3 or clear-cell carcinoma was the only independent risk factor for survival of patients of reproductive age with stage I EOC. FSS can be safely performed on patients of reproductive age with grade 1-2, stage I EOC. The safety of FSS for grade 3 and clear-cell carcinoma warrants further investigation.

Thymectomy is the primary approach for the treatment of myasthenia gravis (MG). This retrospective study aimed to identify the clinical and demographical features that may impact the duration of mechanical ventilation (DMV), the long-term survival, and the quality of life (QOL) in patients with post-thymectomy myasthenic crisis (PTMC). ⋯ To decrease the duration of mechanical ventilation, we suggest alcohol abstinence before the operation, appropriate preoperative treatment to decrease MGFA classification, and greater attention to the treatment of postoperative complications.
