To assess the oncologic outcomes of radiation therapy (RT) combined with maximal androgen blockade (MAB) and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) kinetics in patients with localized, high-risk prostate carcinoma (PCa). ⋯ MAB + EBRT + PPB is extremely effective in patients with localized, high-risk PCa, indicating that PPB may play a synergistic role in improving PSA kinetics and independently predicts oncologic outcomes.

Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NACRT) has now become the standard treatment for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). NACRT has decreased local relapse (LR) rate in patients with LARC; however, distant relapse has recently attracted much attention. This study aimed to assess the feasibility and efficiency of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) for LARC. ⋯ These outcomes suggest that the therapeutic effect of oxaliplatin-based NAC is at least equal to that of NACRT and that NAC is a feasible and promising option for LARC.

Obesity and overweight have become increasingly prevalent, but no consensus has been reached regarding the effect of body mass index (BMI) on surgical outcomes. In this study, we sought to examine the influence of BMI on perioperative outcomes in a large cohort of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who underwent lobectomy. ⋯ Obesity and overweight did not confer adverse surgical outcomes. Underweight patients presented increased risk of respiratory complications, perioperative death, and prolonged LOS. Thus, overweight and obesity should not be a relative contraindication for lobectomy. Meanwhile, nurses and surgeons should focus on perioperative management of underweight patients.

Diagnosis of peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) may be missed by preoperative imaging. We are presenting our experience with incidentally detected PC of colorectal origin treated with cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and intraperitoneal chemotherapy (IPC) at the same operation. ⋯ Cytoreductive surgery and IPC can be performed safely in patients with intraoperatively detected incidental PC of colorectal origin.

Mesh-reinforced pancreaticojejunostomy versus conventional pancreaticojejunostomy after pancreaticoduodenectomy: a retrospective study of 126 patients.
Pancreatic fistula is a major cause of morbidity and mortality after pancreaticoduodenectomy. The aim of this study is to compare the safety and efficacy of a newly developed technique, namely mesh-reinforced pancreaticojejunostomy, in comparison with the conventional use of pancreaticojejunostomy after undergoing a pancreaticoduodenectomy. ⋯ This retrospective single-center study showed that mesh-reinforced pancreaticojejunostomy appears to be a safe technique for pancreaticojejunostomy. It may reduce pancreatic fistula rate and surgical complications after pancreaticoduodenectomy.
