Comparative StudyAspirin versus rivaroxaban in postoperative bleeding after total knee arthroplasty: a retrospective case-matched study.
Venous thromboembolic disease (VTE) is a complication not uncommon following total knee arthroplasty. Postoperative bleeding-related complications are a concern in many guidelines. The authors aimed to compare the amount of postoperative drainage from closed suction drainage, transfusion rate, and postoperative complications between aspirin and rivaroxaban as VTE prophylaxes after total knee arthroplasty. ⋯ Aspirin and rivaroxaban were effective and safe as VTE chemoprophylaxis in total knee arthroplasty.

Comparative StudyComparison of low-profile plate-screw and Kirschner-wire osteosynthesis outcomes in extra-articular unstable proximal phalangeal fractures.
We aimed to present the radiological and clinical results of Kirschner-wire (K-wire) fixation and low-profile plate-screw fixation applied to unstable proximal phalangeal fractures without extension to the joint. ⋯ Plate-screw osteosynthesis in the extra-articular, unstable fractures of the proximal phalanx, which is "small" compared with the body but has a "major function" for the hand and upper extremity, allows for rigid fixation, short immobilization, and early motion in spiral/oblique-fragmented fractures. K-wire fixation, an alternative treatment modality, applied to selected fracture patterns with appropriate indications can achieve good-excellent results radiologically and functionally.

Autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) effect on intervertebral disc restoration: an experimental rabbit model.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment for intervertebral disc (IVD) repair and tissue engineering technologies have been the target of intense research with promising results. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of only one intradiscal injection of PRP in the degenerated rabbit IVD and to assess the restoration process over a 6-week follow-up period. ⋯ PRP intradiscal treatment in degenerative disc disease provokes the maintenance of the disc's basic morphological characteristics with restoration being evident early after injury.

Fasciotomy for chronic exertional compartment syndrome of the leg: clinical outcome in a large retrospective cohort.
Chronic exertional compartment syndrome (CECS) is an overuse disorder typically affecting an athletic population. CECS is a diagnosis based on history and intracompartmental pressure (ICP) testing. CECS patients can be treated surgically by fasciotomy; however, research on the relationship between ICP and patient symptoms and also between ICP and patient-reported outcome post-fasciotomy is limited. This study aims to (1) assess functional outcome and patient satisfaction post-fasciotomy and (2) identify any potential correlation between ICP and reported levels of pain. ⋯ Fasciotomy significantly reduces pain and increases activity levels in CECS patients. ICP was found to positively correlate with patient-reported pain.

ReviewTraumatic upper plexus palsy: Is the exploration of brachial plexus necessary?
Brachial plexus injuries are major injuries of the upper limb resulting in severe dysfunction usually in young patients. Upper trunk injuries of the brachial plexus account for approximately 45% of brachial plexus injuries. ⋯ Several published studies presented the results of both techniques, but there are few studies which compared these two techniques. This article summarizes the treatment options for upper trunk brachial plexus injuries, discusses the merits and demerits of each technique, and presents authors' proposed treatment for these injuries.
