Factors affecting mortality and reoperations in high-energy pelvic fractures.
Factors affecting mortality during the first year following high-energy pelvic fractures has not been reported previously. Nor has surgical complications leading to reoperations been reported in a cohort with only high-energy pelvic trauma patients. ⋯ Non-survivors in our study died mainly because of traumatic brain injury or high age with extensive comorbidities. Most of the mortalities occurred early. Intentional injuries and especially intentional falls from high altitude had high mortality rate. Reoperation frequency was high, and several of the hardware-related complications could potentially have been avoided.

Randomized Controlled TrialShort-term outcomes of subacromial injection of combined corticosteroid with low-volume compared to high-volume local anesthetic for rotator cuff impingement syndrome: a randomized controlled non-inferiority trial.
In symptomatic tendinosis, a corticosteroid injection into the subacromial space is a palliative treatment option. This study compares high volumes (10 cc) of local anesthetic (LA) combined with triamcinolone acetate (TA) with low volumes (4 cc) of LA combined with TA to see whether the latter would provide similar pain, function and complication outcomes for subacromial injections in patients with impingement syndrome. ⋯ Level I.

Comparative StudyReasons for revision of failed hemiarthroplasty: Are there any differences between unipolar and bipolar?
Hemiarthroplasty (HA) is an effective procedure for treatment of femoral neck fracture. However, it is debatable whether unipolar or bipolar HA is the most suitable implant. ⋯ Aseptic loosening was the most common reason for revision surgery after hemiarthroplasty surgery in early and late failures. Unipolar and bipolar hemiarthroplasty were not different in terms of causes of failure and survivorship except bipolar hemiarthroplasty had many fewer acetabular erosion events.

Satisfied patients after shoulder arthrodesis for brachial plexus lesions even after 20 years of follow-up.
Patients with an upper brachial plexus lesion can suffer from dysfunction, joint deformities and instability of the shoulder. The goal of this study was to determine pain, shoulder function, patient satisfaction and muscle strength in shoulder arthrodesis in patients with an upper brachial plexus lesion more than 15 years after surgery. ⋯ A retrospective cohort study.
