Comparative StudyComparison between locked and unlocked intramedullary nails in intertrochanteric fractures.
Intertrochanteric fractures are of great interest worldwide and are the most frequently operated fractures. Intramedullary nailing is commonly used in the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures. The purpose of this study is to assess the necessity of using the distal blocking screw in 31-A1 and 31-A2 fractures, classified according to the Orthopaedic Trauma Association classification system (AO/OTA). ⋯ This study demonstrates that in intertrochanteric 31-A1 and 31-A2 stable fractures, the absence of distal locking screw does not compromise bone healing and prevents several clinical complications.

The best cited articles of the European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (EJOST): a bibliometric analysis.
European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (EJOST) was founded in 1991. It was initially named as Orthopédie-Traumatologie, and since then it is dedicated in sharing knowledge and new evidence in the field of orthopaedics. ⋯ By the very beginning of its launch, it has been publishing high-quality research articles in all orthopaedic subspecialties and has gradually become one of the leading journals in its specific subject area. The aim of this study was to identify, analyse and categorize the most frequently cited articles, published by EJOST since its launch.

Use of modular megaprosthesis in managing chronic end-stage periprosthetic hip and knee infections: Is there an increase in relapse rate?
Bone loss is a common problem in periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) scenarios. Modular megaprosthesis (MP) could offer a limb salvage solution in such situations. Concerns about risk of infection relapse, reinfection and implant longevity exist regarding MP use in cases of chronic PJI, rather than standard implants. We therefore sought to analyze our results with MP use in chronic PJI cases. ⋯ According our data, MP is a useful tool in treating end-stage PJI cases, achieving acceptable eradication, satisfaction and implant survivorship rates.

"Clothesline technique" for proximal tibial shaft fracture fixation using conventional intramedullary nail: a simple, useful, and inexpensive technique to prevent fracture malalignment.
Treatment of proximal tibial shaft fractures is always challenging. Despite the development of modern techniques, the literature still shows high complication rates, especially regarding proximal fragment malalignment. ⋯ Unlike in tibial shaft fractures, nails do not reduce proximal tibial fractures due to the medullary canal width. This study aims to describe a simple, useful, and inexpensive technique to prevent valgus and extension deformities when treating proximal tibial fractures using conventional nails: the so-called clothesline technique.

Intraoperative radiation exposure in spinal scoliosis surgery for pediatric patients using the O-arm® imaging system.
The O-arm® navigation system allows intraoperative CT imaging that can facilitate highly accurate instrumentation surgery, but radiation exposure is higher than with X-ray radiography. This is a particular concern in pediatric surgery. The purpose of this study is to examine intraoperative radiation exposure in pediatric spinal scoliosis surgery using O-arm. ⋯ As the fused range became wider, several scans were required for O-arm, and the total radiation exposure became roughly the same as that in preoperative CT. Use of O-arm in our original protocol can contribute to reduction in radiation exposure.
